we were at an evening wedding reception last week at a 'country' hotel. Cost of one round consisting of glass of red wine, pint of lager and a lemonade? £11.60 !!!
So for the whole evening this was all we had (I had 1 further glass wine @£5).
Is this standard pricing for these places?
   That is shocking!!! Hope it was a bucket for that price!!! :p

Sorry to say this but that's not actually a bad price for a "country hotel" :(
We went at the weekend (treat from OH) to a luxury hotel andit was absolutely gorgeous. Dinner 3 courses was £37 a head. Wine £23 a bottle (work it out but I usually get about 4 glasses of wine out of a bottle...) and so on. We brought our own champagne with us (a x-mas perssie from last year) and just had the bucket with ice and glasses brought to the room.

On the flip side they forgot to charge us for 2 baileys, 1 glass of wine, a £12 cigar (OH's treat to himself, his 3rd this year lol!!!) and a whiskey hehehehe

My mate had his wedding reception at the Hotel Du Vin in Birmingham recently. I have no hesitation in naming and shaming this establishment as the drinks prices were tantamount to theft.

Firstly, there were no beer pumps. "Where do I get a pint in here then?" I thought. Answer - you don't.

£3.00 for bottle (½ pint) crap Spanish beer.
I think my mate paid about £7.50 for a JD and coke.
Someone asked for a bottle of wine, and was quoted about £23.00. They asked if there was anything cheaper, the barman looked at them like they were scum, and said there was a cheaper bottle for about £15.00. £23.00 for a bottle of Happy Shopper Polish Liebfraumilch with the hotel's own label stuck on the front.

I flatly refused to buy a single drink. Me and a couple of the other outraged guests simply sloped off to the nearest pub, sank a couple of (very) swift  , then returned to the reception. An hour or so later we just did the same again. I had a great night (despite the hotel), and my mate wasn't offended in the least.

I actually came away from the hotel in profit, having nicked all their free boxes of matches and the hot chocolate from the bridal suite. :D (They wouldn't have had time to be drinking chocolate anyway. ;) )
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I must be far too used to central London prices, I don't think £5 for a glass of wine is that horrendous! hahaha

Worst I can remember in recent history is paying £19 for two vodka/lemonades in a club (again, in central London). Even I found that horrific though!

    ouch !
Heard a rumour that they were charging £2.50 for a can of Irn Bru. We rarely go out so it was a bit of a shock. Ironically we were at a birthday party the following night in the local bowling club (classy!) and the same round cost the same price as the one glass of wine the night before

We went to a wed reception at Goodwood hotel recently, even the brides father said he wouldnt pay the money for a pint of larger, so 10 of us chipped in 10.00 each, and went to Tescos!! We got larger, wine and whiskey, kept it in the car in the car park and had a very nice night for 10.00!!!

I thought I was ripped off the other week when I was charged £7 for JD & Coke, a pint of orange and lemonade and a vodka and lemonade at a wedding reception. Seems I actually got a good deal.

I won a weekend stay at one of these hotels. I took my teen daughter. A lovely 5 course meal each night was included. Iwas shocked though to find that a glass of house wine with my meal would cost me £5.00. We both had a diet coke @£3.50 each. So £14 for four diet cokes!

I went to a Thames Boat Party with a half bottle of vodka and some Asda's own brand southern comfort in a half litre coke bottle to mix with lemonade etc. Ruth and I got rat-arsed for about a tenner!
    [strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!
