fruitycar wrote:we were at an evening wedding reception last week at a 'country' hotel. Cost of one round consisting of glass of red wine, pint of lager and a lemonade? £11.60 !!!
So for the whole evening this was all we had (I had 1 further glass wine @£5).
Is this standard pricing for these places?

£5 for a glass of wine isnt bad at all (in my opinion) - in Leeds the other day it was £5 for a small or £7.50 for a large... in more expensive places I have paid much more (but the wine was very nice).
Assume the wine from the first round was the same price then £6.60 for a pint and a lemonade is on the steep side to me though. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I've asked for my pint in two half glasses when a pint is cheaper. I think the barman was amused and obliged.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Oh! At the weekend I watched two guests get escorted out of a wedding at a hotel for sneeking in their own booze (vodka in handbag). The bride was devistated, and acused them (the couple NOT the hotel) of ruining the evening...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200

Speaking about hotels & weddings....
Was staying in a hotel in Aberdeenshire at the weekend, for my uncle's wedding.
A pint of lager in the bar was £2.25, £2.65 in the function suite
Most people were buying them and bringing them over from the bar0 -
Its just not country hotels its bars/pubs in the centre of town, the prices for drinks these days are extortionate, i am becoming more tempted to have a load of mates round and ask them to bring a few cans of drink for a saturday night,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

The most shocking one I had was when I stayed at a really posh hotel in London for work. Not having stayed anywhere like it before (£10 travelodge anyone
) I went and had a bit of a rummage through the mini bar.
While I was doing this I saw the sign saying "You move it, you've bought it!!!" I think about £10 for a (small) bar of chocolate, some crisps (the smallest tube of pringles ever!!) and a (soft) drink got charged to the room automatically
Work haven't sent me back there yet :rotfl:0 -
If you honestly haven't consumed anything, accuse them very loudly of entering your room and notching up a bill by taking items off the pressure system and putting them back on - ask them to go and do a stock check of your mini-bar, say you've never been so humiliated, and won't be back... Can get you a whole fist of gift vouchers/money off your bill...*

I went away with work for a week last year. The hotel we were staying in had a cafe. A glass of orange juice (like a small wine glass size) was £9.00.
And they expected a tip...I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are E7760/3970. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it.
