Is there anyway Dell can check to see if the person paying for this computer really has a business? Do they check with companies houses or the Inland Revenue, to see if the company exists?
Do they inform the Inland Revenue of the company's exsistance?
The last thing I want is the Inland Revenue investigating a company I have made up just to get a chaep computer.
Am I being naive?0 -
All those sat on the fence worrying about the upgradability or reliability of this machine ignore the pesamists, i ordered a 2.4ghz dell just after christmas and it hasnt struggled yet with any application i have thrown at it, although i would be the first to admit if you want high end graphics based pc games then the processor nor graphics card would be up to it, but light dtp, word processing, burning cds/dvds, surfing the internet and sending emails etc this is PERFECT. It is relatively easy to upgrade with things like ram, optical drives (cd, dvd drives etc)hard drive, graphics cards and sound cards (as you just disable the onboard sound/graphics in system properties) the only draw back is that if you opt not to have a floppy drive fitted then it would be extremely difficult to fit one yourself because dell do not include the chassy/cage needed to sit the floppy drive into. Since owning my dell it takes roughly 45 seconds to load into windows xp home (my older system used to take around 3 mins plus) although the loading time will obviously increase the more info you install on the HD. Looking back just 18 months or so these processors were at the top end of the PC market you could not really get any higher than 2.8ghz (albeit P4 not celeron) so saying applications will struggle is ludicrus. Now with the down side, Dell seem to be very inconsitent when it comes to accepting orders from their medium/large businesses but that is probably because they expect multiple orders from 200+ employee companies not just the odd one or two, I had my order refused when I tried before xmas on the med/large business but was successful a month later through their small business sector.
Hope this helps the undecided.

For all the naysayers you might like to stop and think there are many people out there with quite ancient machines just looking for a basic pc packing a little more punch than the current pII or pIII they are operating on having paid about £800 in the first place to some colgate tooth flashing salesman in pc world two years ago, and for them this is an absolute bargain, £185 plug it in and go surfing, cd burning, mp3 storage, dvd viewing, etc
Those looking for something that can run the latest pc game online smack hell out of each other realtime games know just exactly the capacity of system they require and probably wouldn't give this system a second look.
But to many this is a genuine bargain, and not to be missed or dithered over.
Not a Rolls but a clearance priced Mondeo if you like!
Plus even if you are an absolute idiot and sell off your old p3 system for £40 you still have a massive upgrade for only £145Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
It is certainly quite a good deal. I would take off the warranty, but _add back_ the pentium upgrade, as the celeron is a poor option. An eye for eye, and we'll all be blind - Mahatma Ghandi

Regards the warrenty - you have to take it off to get it for £185inc.
I would disagree about the pentium upgrade. Anyone buying this spec machine is getting for internet/light use etc.
The processor upgrade is slightly irrelivant really, as I do not see it would really improve the speed of the machine in real life scenarios. If you did want to upgrade anything you should go for an extra 256mb RAM or a better graphics card really.
My view anyway. (I bought the basic machine as is for my mum and she will have no problems - unless she suddenly gets the desire to play Haf-Life 2 etc :-)0 -
OOhhh if only it was a laptop, I am after a really (cheap!) basic model just for Uni work.... nothing else, no games... maybe the ability to check emails..... anyone have any ideas, please, let me know
