When I was reading up about SW I got the impression that if you made yourself a big portion of free curry and rice and had it in the fridge, you could go get some more out all day if you wanted to, it didn't seem to suggest no snacking.
Gotta agree with this.
Also some people have mentioned that cooked/tinned fruit is synned as its easier to eat large amounts compared to eating fresh fruit. Erm I can easily get through a pile of fresh satsumas or apples throughout the day:eek:. Surely that's gotta be better than reaching for the biscuit tin which is what I tend to do if I dont have enough fruit and veg indoors.0 -
I also find it really strange about the snacking. I thought that indeed, if its free food, you can eat as much as you want. I didnt tihnk it was "about" calorie counting. Its about combining foods to ensure that you arent hungry. Therefore - eating the raw fruit is better as more filling than the dried or canned - we understand that.
I also dont see what the problem is on snacking on fruit, yoghurt, cottage cheese, salad etc all day if you want to- as long as you dont eat till you feel sick!! I dont think free foods really "do that" though. Because they are filling. and not "moreish" in the way that refined carbs are.
my sister who is a SW consultant makes up "roasted" veg using frylite to snack on through the day. She will also have a mug shot whenever she fancies, fruit, yog, or a free-food soup if she is feeling peckish.
Eg:
I had fruit & yog this morning. If I had some free soup around I would probably eat that now as Im so hungry. But that might mean at lunchtime, Im not quite as hungry, so could have the cottage cheese salad. I might be too full then to have the banana as well, i might have that at 4pm instead
I dont understand what difference it makes WHEN you eat those foods- especially if they are free foods what is the problem?
OK NOW IM CONFUSED! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
If anyone eats all day long - even free foods - they all have calories in them and if you eat too many calories then you won't be able to lose weight.
This goes against what SW tells us - the diet is not calorie counted, it is a way of life - but -this is where I don't think it works - eat too much of anything and you will be consuming more food than your body needs to exist.
I was sticking to SW 100%, would lose 1lb one week, put it on the next etc. this applies to most of my group members, and I eat virtually the same week by week, so that is why I have come to the conclusion that the only way is to cut down on quantity.
The only ones who lose weight are the ones who have just started on the diet and it is new to them.0 -

But thats just not true though. My sister is still losing is now having to up her syns quite dramatically to ensure she loses no more weight. She has been doing the programme for about a year. Yes she might put on a lb one week lose it the next but at the end of the day she is still maintaining and losing to the point where she knows she cant go nor should she go any smaller. Shes in size 8 clothes from size 14-16, knowing she cant lose any more otherwise she will look like a skeleton!

Morning everyone
ooohhh what a debate we have going on .... so here is where I am at the moment ...
Im only on my 4th week of SW but Im loving it, I do think that some of the guidelines are open to interpretation and so 3 of us could read the same thing and all translate it differently -
So for instance :-- Yes foods listed as FREE would suggest that you can eat as many as you want, I read it as you can eat as many as you NEED to feel comfortably full..
... Somehow I have managed to re-programme myself to realise that just because I "can" eat something doesn't mean "I have to" -In fact I have seen some recipes that seem huge -like a lovely looking recipe for honey glazed pork chops which allows 2x7oz pork steaks per portion:eek:-Im planning on trying the recipe but 1 pork steak is plenty...
so Im finding SW an absolute blast (remind me I said this if I flag in a few months :rotfl:)... Im still eating more than a lot of others -but mainly fruit n veg, Im also cooking something different pretty much every night -so I should be getting a really good range of my nutrients -and most importantly Im not getting bored :T I really look forward to every evening meal :j. I really do believe that if you eat the same things over and over your system sort of gets used to it (mine never knows what is coming:p)
So far I have stuck to it 100% -I have never gone over my syns -Im trying really hard to incorporate them into my meals rather than saving them for "extras" ....I might not be losing the huge chunks that I know I have before -but I plonked all that back on-so Im happy with the slowly slowy catchy monkey approach :rotfl:
Anyway enough waffle...my EE meals for today are:-- 250ml semi skimmed(A)
- lemon juice in hot water
- 28g oats soaked overnight with (B):-
- 75g super creamy blueberry yogurt (4)
- chopped apple
- Apple
- ham
- cottage cheese
- carrots
- cucumber
- tomatoes
- beetroot
- peppers
- SW Lancashire hot pot (1)
- broccoli
- green beans
- peas
- chopped apple
- 75g creamy blueberry yogurt (4)
I hope that everyone is well and well done on any losses I have missed :j
Have a good day everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
The book does say on extra easy that your first choice of snacks SHOULD be superfree foods.
However (IMO) you should have meals that fill you up (with your 1/3rd of the plate superfree). If you have a decent size breakfast, lunch and dinner chances are that a couple of pieces of fruit will be enough snacks during the day (lets not talk about the evenings sitting in front of the telly).
Re the chickpeas - if you are feeling snackish then why not. A tin of chickpeas is 300 calories is really only the equivalent to a muller a banana and an apple .
Gemsmember, I disagree that most people will not lose weight despite sticking to the plan. There are a few member's in my class that struggle to lose despite 'sticking' to the plan. Last night one of the 'stickers' admitted that she used her 'a' choice for lurpak . Another admitted that whatever cake she had, however much she counted it as five syns (as it says in the book cake is 5 syns per 28g).
Personally if I think back over the week any week I've not had a good loss I realise i never counted the couple of crisps I nicked from my son, or the wee bit of dessert I had off someones plate, or the couple of minstrils. Or even the squirt of tomato sauce, the wee bit of gravy etc etc. These 'no counts' soon add up - if you think one solitary galaxy minsitril in 1 syn you can easily forgot loads of syns.
I don't think its the free food thats the problem (though I do try and avoid some of the more processed free foods like pasta and sauce for example).0 -
Had Wi last night and lost another 3lb thats me 8lbs away form target.:j:j Ive gotten to 7lb away from target before then it was Christmas and I put it all back on, but im determined this time. Ive upped my exercise and I think thats whay ive lost more as my eating hasnt changed.
I eat as much free foods as I like, I look at SW over a 4 week period not week to week, so if I had a week of eating loads of leftovers or SW chips everynight for supper I probably wouldnt eat that every week so the whole healthy eating plan balances out. So even if ive eaten A lot of calories over a few days then it evens out over time. Also the more I eat the faster m metabolism goes and the more I lose (obviously of the right foods and not junk) In the past I would skip brekkie and my body would go into starvation mode, I wouldnt lose. The I would get so fed up being hungry I would binge.
SW does work when you follow it and it is a good plan to put into place for all the family for life.
Yes you do lose a lot the first few months and the first time you try it, but thats because your body gets a shock and because you are following it to the letter. After the 2nd or 3rd try you get fly and a bit lazy with writing things down etc. But if you still stuck to it the way you did in the beginning you would still have a steady loss.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -
and that is where I think the problem lies - it is OK if you get a comfortably full feeling, but for some they can eat until the cows come home and not feel full, so you do need to limit what you are eating. If you are unable to guage it yourself, then you need some guidelines.
A whole pack of instant mash is free -but should you eat a whole pack - obviously not, but I can eat it, plus a whole 400g tin of baked beans and 4 quorn sausages plus anything else (all free)
It will work for some, but not for everyone. If you are one of the lucky ones and lost all your weight and kept it off, then that is good, but for a lot of us, that isn't the case.
At my group a couple of people have lost over 4 stone, a lot of people have lost about 1-2stone and they are still attending class after 2 + years, still having only lost the 1-2stone they managed in the first couple of months.
I am sure these people make up the majority of those attending classes0 -
I have struggled even though i have stuck to the diet 100% (not this week cos of birthday ect ) when we looked at my diary i was eating loads of free food as snacks ect but ate loads of fruit. One day we worked out that i ate almost 1500 calories just in snacking fruit so you need to look at how much food you are eating too and every one has a different metabolism to different foods - me can't touch the bread lately but grapefruit wow if i have them every day the weight loss is better. Walter melon although my favourite will entice me to eat it over 2 days after all it is only water - well water and 1500 calories for a med sized one.So you do need to be aware of what goes in:happyhear YUMMY MUMMY TO HENRY BEAR AGED 10:happyhearslimming world need to get back to target 25lb to goDisney World here we come May 2018:j0
