Why did you heat it? The porridge oats don't need to be cooked. (In fact, you don't even need to make it the night before as it is just the same consistency if you make it the second before you eat it). As for why fruit is synned if cooked, I expect it's for the same reason fruit juices are synned - it's much quicker to eat thus you could technically eat much more of it.
On the other hand, if you just wanted a warm breakfast, why not make porridge with water in the usual way, then add the fruit and yoghurt, and eat it whilst it's still warm.

Hi, I made it with the toffee muller and it is lovely heated, the porridge is, as is the fruit (warmish banana and toffee, yum, yum).

Also, I find the consistency is a lot nicer if left to soak overnight and also if made with yogurt rather than water too.

So I heated it for personal preference I guess, like many things we eat.

I don't actually mind syning it as I always struggle to eat my syns but I just want to know if I am doing the right thing and if so why.
  • extra easy for me today:

    B special k (8) milk (a)
L ham salad sandwhich (b) extra light mayo (0.5), pasta & sauce
D chilli (with loads of hidden veg for ds :p ) , jacket potato
S muller, fruit, boiled egg, tea,

Once again i'm on my phone, can't wait until internet is back on at home :(

I have to agree the magic porridge is nicer if left for a few hours at least..

As to the heating thing - cooked fruit does not fill you up the way raw fruit does, hence the if you are cooking with fruit you syn for it. However, I think in this case its a grey area. Personally I would not use syns for the banana. Particularly if you are not making it every day. However if your weight loss is not what you hoped then I might reconsider.

Not a good day for me. Found out at 7am this morning that my dear Daddy has Lymphoma and now have an upset tummy, presumably due to the chip I pinched off my son on Saturday which had been inside a bread roll. So feeling completely rubbish and shocked to say the least but have managed to stay on plan today. Suddenly losing weight doesn't seem so important right now :(
Hold him close, Karen - Daddies are very valuable.

Hugs to you; stay with it if you can

i'm praying for my 3 stone weight loss this week, so far i have lost 2 stone 13 &1/2lbs. thats since 29th september 2009. nearly 7 months.
weekend are still my downfall, food just seems to run into mouth, and it is never good food!
i do weigh in's on a thursday and have to work hard to pull it back from the weekend.
the SW threads on here are always a good surport. thanks everyone.

Good luck Jules. I have been mostly dieting for about the same time and only just crossed my 2stone mark! Perhaps taking xmas 'off' wasn't a good idea but at least I didn't gain.

Really hope you make your third!!

    Hello there

my mum is on the slimming world plan and doing very well ( shes lost 3 stone!!)
i was wonderng if i could have ur advise. its her birthday on thursday, and i would like to get her a cake, but dont want to undo the good work she has done so far. any recommendations??

    Thank u for ur time!!

This is nice, I tend to add a bit of strawberry muller in with the quark mixture to make it a little creamier, also add extra sweetener if you like it sweeter!

Swiss Roll Cake - 1/2 syn for the whole thing!

    Ingredients:

    4 eggs
    1 tub quark
    strawberries
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 tsp baking powder
    5 tbsp sweetener powder

    Method:

    1. Seperate eggs and whisk whites untill stiff.
    2. Mix the yolks with half the quark and 4 tblsp sweetener, baking powder and vanilla.
    3. Put half the eff white mixture into the yolk mixture and gently mix together then gently fold in the rest of the egg whites.
    4. Put onto a thin baking tran and bake on gas mark 5 or 180 degrees for 20 minutes.
    5. Mix rest of the quark with 1 tblsp sweetener and place on top of the cooked egg mixture. Add sliced strawberries on top of the quark and then roll up!
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!

    Marion,

Does the swiss roll taste like cake? or more meringuey?

Waterfalls, let us know how you get on if you make it......
