    Redman, whats your number?:rotfl:

In regards to the new partner/relationship view, I dont see myself settling down and getting married for a few years just due to my ex and general mistrust of men:(

I guess I will wait for my Prince Charming (;))

    Hehe, don't tempt me ;)

Yeah, I'd give it a little time if I were you, I'm sure the IVF/donor route isn't an easy one emotionally without a partner - there'd be a hell of a lot of stress there, and you'd need a lot of support from friends and family, best leave that decision for a little bit.

You're 28, and been single for close to a year - this translates as you've got plenty of time to make a decision, and have had some time to get your head around what happened, realise it wasn't your fault and (start to) move on etc. One thing I would say is don't just wait for your prince to come. It took me a good couple of years after my long term relationship broke up before I became more proactive, and because of this I had limited opportunites and hence went out with some pretty random lasses :)
  • Ooooooo OP where in the country are you??? I'm trying to palm my BIL off on some poor unsuspecting woman who's looking to settle down and have kids in the next few years:rotfl::rotfl: Only joking:p:D:rotfl: but if you are interested........;)

I agree with all the other posters who say you still have a few years left:) Have you tried dating sites etc? Thats how I met my now DH, i was only 22 at the time(he was 25), but i felt exactly the same as you do now:o and where I was living at the time wasn't exactly full of eligible suitors so to t'interweb I went, just over 4yrs later and we're happily married with 1st bubs on the way and I definitely wouldn't have it any other way:), its hard enough with my hubbys support but the thought of doing it alone fills me with dread, just trying to get pregnant was hard enough such a rollercoaster of emotions:( for those who have done it alone they have my utmost respect and admiration:)

  • Evening everyone

I haven't had internet access for a while (MSE is banned at work for bizarre reason!) so haven't been able to update. I have gotten in touch with my local council and had a chat about fostering children :-) I have had some information packs sent out to, so lots to consider :-)

No rushing off to a sperm bank yet, I'm going to see if I can do my bit and foster :-)

    I'll keep you updated!

I remember when I was in my mid twenties and really felt desperate to have a child. I read an article by Irma Kurtz, who was the agony aunt for Cosmopolitan who said that even if you had a child, you would still have that desperation for another, because it was your body not your mind that was making you feel like that. Because of that, she said, you can afford to wait, because having the child won't take away the desire to get pregnant.

It was the best piece of advice I've read - I'm sure I would've tried to 'accidentally' get pregnant otherwise.

As to the sperm donor - sorry, but that's just horrible! You'll have a child you'll love more than life itself and then you will have to explain that he doesn't have a father who will cherish him; in fact you've no clue who the father is. Your child will see other children with their fathers and will always feel a sadness throughout his life that he doesn't have that.

Why not try to discriminate when you look for men, and look for those who will be decent fathers, rather than those who are immature and unwilling to commit?

As for being too old! 28 has to be just about the best age to be - lots of potential for the future, everyone treats you as an adult, enough single men to make life interesting....

That's certainly putting your desire for a child to the best possible use, and to be commended!

  • The one word which comes to mind is selfish. Kids need two parents, not just a hormonally unbalanced mother with financial resources.
