all the debate did was confirm that Brown was never going to come across well in that type of scenario.

it also confirmed the fact that Cameron performed and acted his way through (maybe in a very Tony Blair kind of way) right through the debate more than the other two guys. he didn't come across very sincere or even close to be be in touch with real people in the UK.

what it did do was make me appreciate Clegg - not the Lib Dems but appreciate Clegg as the politician.

they all lied their way through, because they know that telling the truth would make them unelectable.

almost all the questions were about spending in some way - the audience wanted to hear about spending pledges, wanted to know that their concerns were going to be fully funded, that any cuts will fall elsewhere.

GB did a good job of promising the earth again. he promised to spend about 8 times our entire GDP in the next 10 minutes. i will spend so much money on the police that everyone will be a police officer. david cameron will abolish the police, he wants you to be mugged etc etc.

DC was rubbish. "jobs tax jobs tax la la la" and "what small business hasn't had to cut its spending by 1p in the £". i don't think he actually said anything else.

NC was promising that noone would have to pay any income tax and that this would all be paid for by making rich people pay more CGT. there were some other ways this would be funded, but he couldn't name any of them. all fully costed though - oh yeah. trouble with his proposal is that CGT raises a tiny amount of revenue, so he would have to put it up to close to 100% to actually pay for this tax cut. good luck with that raising any revenue. i think i'll hold on to my assets for now, thanks all the same.

not surprising clegg won, assuming that the audience questions were a fair representation of the questions that the TV audience wanted answered. cloud cuckoo land.
  • the clear winner was Cameron. Clegg came across to anyone intelligent as an imbecile promising the world and trying to play off the other two. Brown came across as awful, a bully and a liar.

Cameron didn't do quite as well as you would have expected but he was definitely the most statesman like.

Clegg has it very easy, with his ridiculous "costed" plans. him and st vince have pulled the wool over peoples eyes brilliantly.

10k tax free allowance - mansion tax !!!!!!???!! so eveyone in London with a normal house will pay a manison tax??? maybe you can get a mansion for 1m oooop north but not in London. what a crock.

Did any of them mention being tough on SCUM and the causes of SCUM in order to secure the horsey vote?

Blacklight, how did your prediction that 'Dave' will be in his element and wipe the floor with the others work out? He managed to look even more lightweight than he really is.

Actually I thought he did appallingly. I'd have put him in last place after that although the polls seem to suggest he came out second.

Poor show Dave. Better luck in round two.

I thought Clegg was very repetitive, especially on crime. I was cringing every time he said 'academy of crime', must have said it 5 times and gave the impression he decided it was better to repeat himself rather than say nothing at all.

To be fair to him though, for the first half, all of Brown's and Cameron's focus was on each other but for the second half, Clegg had made enough of an impact to force them to include him and prompt the 'I agree with Nick' comments as they fought not to exclude him from a possible coalition.

I didn't buy the 'engaged with each of the question askers by using each of their names' bullsh1t though. What a load of tosh.

Loads of people on facebook discussing it last night came out with same opinion - that Clegg looks like a good one to vote for.
