This is a super diary and i love the daily updates.
I too am in control of the finances but mainly because our mortgage is with the same company as our joint account and hubby cannot remember the password.
Hubby is also less dedicated to become MF than me, I think because I have to work full time since having our little girl I feel I am making a huge sacrifice and need to see a benefit for this where as his life is the same.
The things I do to keep him on board is make sure sure he gets food extras he wants so I would go without meat or let him buy crisps or biscuits or something, when his belly is full hes happier! I don't mind going without stuff if it can go in the mortagage account! Also I show him every month the amount we save on interest by the over payment as motivation, sometimes this helps if he can see the bigger picture. Finally I promise him big holiday when we are finally mortgage free (oh and use the mortgage overpayment calculator as an incentivr)
Good luck!Mortgage November 2003 was £135k, but thanks to this website on 28/08/12 we became MORTGAGE FREE!
Now just over 2 years we have taken on the challenge again! )(starting £237k Nov 2014) Current mortgage £232,399.82, current overpayment total £1550, years remaining= 170 -

Thanks gerbiljo,
Your kind words mean a lot and its nice to know that I'm not the only one with a hubby not fully onboard.
Glad everyone is liking the little and large updates. Its amazing for me to see how much I am doing to help us become mortgage free even if some things are very tiny. Its really helping me stay motivated.Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
Fingers crossed hubby is on board soon.
What you need to do is have a spreadsheet of figures with OPs and figures without and at the end of the year you can show him what your hard work has saved and that he shouldnt be so stubborn and use his head to see what you are doing is being a financial superwoman

Ok you may all have noticed my absence (again) for the last few days. Sorry I don't really know where the time went. I was feeling poorly again (chicken pox is going around the school and toddler group again and I have no immunity to it so the count of 4 x chicken pox when I was younger and 3 x shingles in later life may well increase shortly). I'm just hoping that the kids don't catch it again - especially as we go on holiday in just under 3 weeks. Fingers crossed everyone xxxx

Don't ever apologise for having a day or two off, youcan't expect to be at full steam all the time. I have tried to plan a day or two of just doing things for me rather than money saving or I'll go mad. You were also ill for goodness sake woman!!craftingmad wrote: »

Thanks pammy,
You have made me feel a whole lot better.
I'm really pleased with how well the advertising commission is going - lets hope theres lots more people out there who want to advertise in the village magazine !!Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
Hi everyone,
I'm back and am sorry for not posting for a while. I promise I have still been focused on working hard towards my MF goal but life took over for a while but I'm back with new vigour to acheive my goals.
Well I have a couple of good bits of news. Firstly I have mananged to persuade OH to agree to up the OP's to £700 a month from June (we are currently OP £620 a month).
Secondly he too now agrees that he wants to clear the mortgage in a MAXIMUM of 5 years so thats a big result. The only problem is that he doesnt want to throw every available penny at it for now and is hoping on some shares gaining in value in order to pay off early (that and winning the lottery!). Be nice if it happens & I have my fingers crossed but for now I am still using the sneaky route to ciphen money from the joint account for extra overpayments.
Ohhhh and I'm so excited - I have obviously gained some green fingers as I now have growing in my garden Strawberries, courgettes, dwarf runner beans, lettuces, sugar snap peas, cabbages, carrots, parsnips and a pumpkin (this came from my little boys toddler group). All apart from the strawberries and pumpkin I have grown from seed so I'm well chuffed and grateful for everyones help and advice).
Nothing much else to report except for the other day I sold £6.75 of cards at toddler group and have managed to also sell my cards at the other toddler group I attend and have some permanately in our village hall. Also sent away for lots of different samples and coupons and keep doing the surveys and pigsback and quidco clicks. Plus entering all the competitions I can find.
Happy crafty MF'ing everyone!Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
Sounds like your DH is slowly converting, although where they sometimes think the reward comes without the scrimp makes me laugh. At least he agrees in principle if not on a day to day basis.
Good work with your commision and card sales.0 -
