Hi everyone,
Long time no speak but I just have'nt seemed to have the time to post recently. Been so busy doing MF things (plus my kids and I are just getting over tonsilitus).
But I just had to tell you about today. Our savings policy matured so we got credited the fab sum of £22,040 into our bank account today. We have earmarked some of the cash for improvements to the house but today I overpaid the fantabbidozio sum of £20500. So as of today our original £125k mortgage taken out in 2007 now stands at £65982.18. It feels wonderful. That must be our lounge/diner that we now own!!.Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -

thanks everyone,
It does feel amazing although the dreaded tonsilutus seems to have come back. My throat is still feeling horrible and I just want to sleep! Hence no recent blog entries!!!
OH is sort of on board about the OP's now. He was happy to allow this large sum to be used towards mortgage but still does not want to up our monthly OP's over the £700 we are already paying - despite having nearly £1,500 sitting in the account spare this month (he gets paid on 28th so this amount was what was left from last months wages - thats not the same cash as the money earmarked for improvements)
Oh well I'll just have to be sneaky again and start ciperning off!!!!!Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -

Hi everyone,
Well I'm back again - they say third time lucky - so me fingers (and toes) are crossed xx
Loads seem to have been going on in my life recently but hopefully things are now on a good even keel and both my hubby and I are seemingly now singing from the same song sheet so to speak about becoming mortgage free and are much happier too.
We have been keeping up the £700 a month overpayments so the mortgage outstanding is going down nicely and I've still been doing little things like Quidco, pigsback, dooyoo etc to help in our quest.
I have been thinking longterm though and as my little boy will be starting school in Sept next year (I don't even want to think about it but know I have too!) I have formed a plan to boost my income with a self employed business which I can hopefully fit around the children and my love of craft. However the only stumbling block is that to properly get it off the ground I am going to need around £3k. This includes all set up costs, advertising etc ,etc and I hope that (and this is wht it says in my plan) that this will be recoupourated within a year of the business together then with enough income each year to provide me with the equilivant amount of money I would get working part time.
So heres the position at the moment. Hubby and I have agreed that I can use the cash I had when I first met him (my emergency fund) to put towards the venture as long as I raise the rest of the money myself. The current balance in this account is £907.35. Before you all worry we still have approx 3x my hubbys salary saved/invested for an emergency fund.
We are still going to overpay the £700 a month on the mortgage but any money I save/earn/etc will be put towards my new business start up. Any extra money we have in the joint account etc will go towards doing up the house / OP's. And then when the business starts paying its way the money earnt will go towards extra overpayments.
So first update for you. On Friday I did a craft fair at a local school (my little boy and I go to toddler group there once a week) and I made a profit of £66 which I did'nt think was that bad for two hours selling time. In fact I'm quite proud of myself even though I say it myself. Its nice to know that other people like what I make.
I banked this money today in the "fund" so the balance is slowly on its way up.
I also have another craft fair booked for next Saturday at my sons nursery/school which is an all day thing so hopefully I will make a bit more money there to add to the pot.
By the way I won't mention how the non craft buying went in the period I was away from MSE but I will just say that the craft room seems even more bulging than when I strted this diary!!! Never mind back on track now!! Of course if I can keep my craft spending to zero each month too then I can add the child benefit to the fund each month too - I'm one determined woman - especilly as we will losing this in few years time thanks to DavidC!
My current task is to finish making the items for the above craft fair and then make the remaining gifts ready for christmas and then decide on my next plan of attack.
I am also on the lookout for new ideas on raising cash so any ideas would be gratefully received.
Money banked in fund today - £66
Total in fund today - £973.35
Made today - £2 (found it lying on the mantlepiece after hubby hd emptied his pockets so fair game in my eyes!)Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020
