Rather rubbish December ops in the end, although some has been put away towards next year's birthdays.

I've updated the yearly mfw 2017 figures and after a target of £38,545 we have paid off a total of £18,445. Slightly short there then :o

However not to be deterred setting stupidly high targets, 2018's target is £40,000.

Made up of £33,337 mortgage and £6,440 loan = £ 39,777 plus £223 as obviously as that needs rounding up to £40k :rotfl:

I won't get near that so rounding up won't matter much anyway!

    JANUARY'S SUPER SQUEEZE :

This is the challenge of living off Xmas money so I can get ds2 a laptop with the January budget instead.

Unfortunately it's to cover everything except the birthday presents I have to buy (have already put by for that) including food, petrol, coffees out etc.

Separated into £200 grocery and petrol

    £17.45 everything else

It's also best friend's birthday so we will probably be going out, not sure about that one yet, need to accumulate some money for that......

  • Not a fan of the Travelodge, though not stayed in one for years.

I had a night in a travel lodge a couple of years ago after being caught in a snow storm. Clean enough but very, very basic and your breakfast is a box of cereal to eat in the car or your room. I wouldn't choose to stay in one again for business or leisure.

Travelodges have gone downhill, imo (although there's one in the centre of Edinburgh (Rose St?) which isn't bad) Far better are Premier Inns x

Thanks everyone, I didn't book in the end. Budget too tight for January and I do feel a bit like I might regret not paying a bit more :o

Might look out on groupon or voyage prive for a last minute night away nearby in spring (when I have saved the money first).

Today is off to good start as I have a £25 voucher in my inbox :T mentioned in passing to my dad who was a long term British gas customer how good ovo are and he switched and mentioned me :j I can choose Argos , m and s or Amazon. It's one of the birthdays covered so an extra £25 to spend in Jan :D just need topcashback to come through and help now.

It depends on what you want from accommodation - DH and I will stay in a Travelodge if we're going to be out and about exploring all day and just want somewhere cheap and clean to sleep at night. They do vary, but I would say less so than a few years ago. If you're likely to spend more time there though, then something slightly more expensive would be nicer. Depends how desperate you are for the break, I guess - we'd rather be somewhere else more often and less luxuriously! :)

Thanks vix, I'll bear that in mind. We did used to take the kids to premier inns near Alton towers and they were always good, never tried a travelodge though yet.

Time for yet more budget waffle :D

Redeemed the ovo voucher today, couldn't use it for the birthday as uncle wants m and s gift card and you can't buy them with an online voucher. So managed to find out dds favourite perfume and instead of the £££ one I expected her to say she mentioned one she's had before which I found on Amazon for £13.95 for a 100ml (cerrutti 1881) what a result! It will be a birthday present.

I've been checking everything and the only things I have to use are cashback of about £100 goodness knows how far in the future, £10 Amazon gift balance and £10 in costa points. I'm going to draw £50 cash out as I've only a few pounds left in the none grocery budget, I'll pay it back next month as the laptop was cheaper than expected.

Food budget until Feb: £200/0 spent

Everything else budget until Feb: £53.60

    :money: mse stuff today:

Haven't left the house (er, or chair :rotfl:)

Cooked "leftovers" pastry tarts for everyone , except me -flipping WW

checked out all available vouchers /points owing everywhere

Still using up the soap nuts

Making wedges with the half a million spuds I bought cheap in Aldi

Heating on low-dh at home and has a habit of shivering dramatically if it's not on :rotfl:
