Boxing Day done about an hour ago! Don't know whether to be pleased or offernded they only stayed about two and a half hours :rotfl:

Huge amount of food and drink left even though I spent less than usual this year. Dh s parents wanted to get home while it was still light and my parents joined in and left a bit later. Not sure having Boxing Day after Xmas day is the best idea a sure we are all stuffed and a bit worn out.

I always used to feel a bit sad and depressed in the period between Xmas and the new year, but since joining mse I really look forward to making new plans for the next year, can't wait to start 2018 now :D

When I was little we used to have a big family get together on the 27th - as most of my family worked for factory type employers (whether in offices or in the factory - lots of engineering cos in Glos historically) lots were off for the 'Christmas shutdown' - seemed a nice way to do it and spread it out a bit (lots of present swapping also saved for that day, too)

Lots of leftovers means less food spending for the next week or so, hopefully! :)

Not a bad idea that greent, I'm worn out from the last three days and I didn't even host Xmas day (Although did a fair bit of work then too to help!) spacing it out may be a better way, although that said I am now free to watch whatever I want and look at sales online tomorrow :D

Will do thanks, have been thinking about targets today actually.

We got some Xmas money, but I did end up overspending by about the same amount on food and presents in December £100 odd pounds in the end. After the boys have used my debit card to order stuff in the sale and given me the money I now have cash but am short in the current account.

I've decided to clear the debt by allocating the money from conservatory repairs, it probably won't get done that soon as we are waiting for when they are free, and it's needed doing for a long time anyway.

So I'm thinking of using the Xmas money and cash the boys owed me to live on for January and hopefully using the money I normally spend (£700) to pay for a laptop for ds2 who needs a fairly decent one for college.

I couldn't bring myself to ask my parents even though they bought dd one and said they would do the same for the boys when they needed a new one, its awkward through as ds2 knows this :o

Anyway, I won't be mentioning that I'm using my Xmas money to buy food as it's not what it was intended for, dh and I were given £100 as a joint present by my parents, hopefully he won't mind if i commandeer that, if he does I shall just split it.

Think I will have something like £200 ish to live on for January, it will be a dry one so that should be quite a saving :rotfl:

    Mse things today:

Staying in and watching films with dd and her boyfriends dd and the cat -a girls afternoon :)

Eating leftovers (loads of them :D)

    Planning a January budget

Filling up my basket in zara online sale and NOT checking out -sigh

Trying to use my new Xmas present which is a petty cash tin :T I couldn't however as it was shrink wrapped locked with the keys inside.

Planning New Year's Eve - thinking of just going to the cinema with dh, all the kids are out , i don't know if the boys are out all night or not but they are a five minute walk away, although that doesn't mean I won't stay up late and worry!

Another day with nothing really to do :D I might take ds2 to the cinema if he wants to go and I've decided to go back to WW tonight, we had agreed on next week as a start date (best friend and WW partner that is) but I'm going today as it will be a big old slap in the face I need!

I've ordered two charms in the sale, a bow for best friend's birthday, and a cruise ship for dds 21st, £34 saving £21. Also debating whether to a book a night in a travelodge in Brighton for a night in spring. Never stayed in one before and the price in the sale is around £26  it's so worryingly cheap :rotfl: however I am determined to stick to our plans as much as possible this year, breaks away have been our biggest splurge for 2017, so I want to plan but be super cheap next year.

Today shall set up direct debits for regular mortgage overpayments, it's usually done manually and varies depending how much I've overspent beforehand, not this year , it's the year of the big push :T
