Work has always been like that for my dh, he doesn't work as many hours as he used to but to be honest at some points when the kids were tiny he did have the better deal as three very small ones can be quite trying! he has always helped with homework and been great with them playing , obviously had less time to do that than me. He needs more time off though and can't do it, that's why going away is good - he has to!
One thing I will say about the creating memories thing is I've spent years trying to do just that, and as they have got older I realise it's me that remembers the nice stuff I tried to do more than the kids, they remember the random things that took no effort or were not special (in my opinion!) for example my little brother still to this day moans about when my mum was the only one to take him to school during the 1987 storm when it was shut, not the birthday parties and days out etc. :rotfl::rotfl:
Our Halifax accounts are producing £120 per year for almost zero effort, that's a lot of fluffy dice for your cars..............MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

Fluffy dice? Only one of us is from Essex, dear.:rotfl: Seriously, I do need to become a little more interested in "small" rewards because it does add up and all for doing (almost) nothing.
:rotfl: I know what you mean about memories, it always seems to be the silly things we remember. However, I'm not going to deny I want the memories of taking my son to places etc. for me as well as for him. I think he (and you) need time away from work, it seems to be a big source of stress for both of you. Once the mortgage is paid, is your husband hoping to slow down a little?2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
Hi moneyfordreams , thanks for popping in - I'm not the only one then
Hi Alex, I shall ignore you essexist comment!
£120 per year would buy a nice romantic night away for you and your dw, or a few nice meals out
Have no idea if dh I'll slowdown when the mortgage is gone, I have a feeling he won't! However I shall not be giving him the choice, and we will go away more often if he doesn't comply
I have done something rash today, dh was taking me to the cinema and when we went online it said it had changed ownership to Cineworld, so I booked us yearly passes :eek::eek:
He is paying for his from his personal spends and I'm paying for mine. after topcashback and a free month included it works out to £3.53 pw each. It's not our closest one but is a 13 minute drive away and we can take 2x people for free with us on tues and weds with meerkat movies.
I intend to make good use of it and we can't afford to eat out like we were up until recently so it gives is some thing to do cheaply on a regular basis.
I will keep a tally to make sure it was worth it so :
2 X tickets to Jason Bourne (not my choice!) £18 real cost
Oh and £7 tcb paid put today
Bank account be opened tomorrow - forgot again.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
All very busy! Have a great week.0

Grrrrr, mobile bill of £56 for ds1 data all used on one day so obviously an error and vodaphone not willing to credit anything back even though has never gone even a penny over before  plus it took three phone calls to be told no! (Not Pokemon related - that's ds2
)
Anyway, today I've:
Applied for 2x m and s current accounts for me and dh, mine has been approved, still waiting for his. If they both go through ok, it's a total of £440 in vouchers over the next year :T £200 upfront and £20 pm - a big help if I am doing Xmas with no money which it looks like a strong possibility.
Also applied for a tesco loan to replace the sainsburys loan, lower rate as its a smaller balance now, not sure we will get accepted for this but it will free up £75 pm if we are, fingers crossedMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Hi blue fire are you a black card holder now then as it said in the terms that they would upgrade us to black if we renewed next year? £144 is a great price.
I am soooo excited by this , I don't know why! How many times are you going on average weekly? I shall also keep a tally, what are you seeing next? Im planning the nerve as the kids want to see it and the shallows (love anything shark or creature related)MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Hi newgirly, that would be a great saving on the loan. Would that £78 knock any more months off mortgage freedom?
I've just looked into the m&s current account deal. I have an account in mind that I want to switch but it has no direct debits. From going through the process can you add them from another account?June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hi Cath, no £78 wouldn't knock anything off as its £2729 pm for 2 yrs so it would probably go to the cc or else help with living costs.
I've rung my mobile provider to switch two dds to one if our unused accts and I will do the full switch with m and s with those and dhs wages which is the only active thing on it.
I need to find two more ones to switch and I'll do the same with our unused Santander acct. when I'm done I wonder if it's worth trying to get a joint account too, that could be pushing our luck!
Bluefire, you must have square eyes :rotfl: I now know what I want to do when I've retired, I shall just watch films all day :TMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -

If you go to the cinema regularly, I think it's probably a good idea (and money saving in the long run).
I'm confused just reading the synopsis for the Jason Bourne film, NG. :rotfl:2018 totals:
