It's good to hear you are doing so well and amazing to see you could finish so early.. haha I love the tales from the Newgirly household. Ha ha thanks for popping in money for dreams
Took mum for a coffee today at the shops, 90p spent on a pair of flipfops (slightly optimistic weather wise!) and some hareem pants from next with the voucher I got for my birthday.
Both my mum and dad are separately coming into a lot (Like an awful lot!) of money soon, I am pleased for them , however they do keep saying how the have so much they won't know what to do with it  It's difficult to respond to that, they are planning lots of house renovations on their already renovated house as is their porogative, however my mum seems to think I am not happy about them spending all their money.
It's not the case, and I have made it very clear its nobody else's business but theirs. I guess I have been trying to keep out of it and my silence is taken as disapproval!
I don't have a problem with anyone being better off than me, it's just dad is still moaning he has to work they need the money, which is not true. I guess it's different ways for different people, they are just so the opposite of mse I don't understand it.
My dad was upset when he heard an advert for the car he wants to buy having a 10k discount as it meant it would be less exclusive if more people could afford it
Sorry, feel bad writing this really, just get a bit fed up sometimesMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Your parents don't sound particularly helpful or generous, to be honest. I know if I were in your situation, my parents would pay the mortgage.
My mother worked until very recently but it was because she didn't really know what else to do. Father also worked past the usual retirement age because I suppose they'd both done little else during their working lives, both were reluctant to be "retired". Very recently, my parents are beginning to enjoy retirement and have started to meet others their own age. Mother said the other day it was nice to speak to people that aren't family, tenants or employees. However, this was only achieved by me staying with them when mother had a fall and actively getting my father out of their own grounds. I'm not recommending you do the same and IIRC your parents are much younger, possibly still of working age. My point is for them to be happy in retirement, they need to see there's more to life than work.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
They have helped out in the past sometimes Alex, putting fences up in our first house etc. They don't actually have the money yet, but they have already said they won't be paying off our mortgage - that's fair enough, I am a big girl now :rotfl:
Mum has not worked since they married and dad officially retired from his profession about 8 years ago but works full time running his business. They have friends, go away a bit and dad has hobbies/football/ charity work so they don't need my help in that department thank goodness
It's a funny one really, I don't expect that they help us out, but I do feel like we should help the kids out a bit ourselves (money towards deposit type help, not unlimited spending money!) Plus if the mortgage was cleared I would not be a mfw anymore and that would be a tragedy
Anyway I hope your parents continue to get out and about a bit more Alex.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Plans for today:
See what's lurking deep down in the freezer
Cook as much as possible for the week
Bake bread
Start a running shopping list, I usually do an online shop or pop in on the way from work and buy what takes my fancy  This way when I pop in I will have a list of essentials needed.
Gather Easter eggs bought for friends little ones and my lot and make sure I bought enough
Clean house, not too well, just enough to be decent
Budget until april 1st now £48 , and petrol needed !MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Most jobs done except baking bread, did a tiny top up shop at mr t and bought a few yellow stickered bits, Including 4 packs of 4x avocados for 38p a pack :T oh and 2x posh chocolate fudge cakes for 82p each (one for dh and one for the kids to share, he should be the size of a house but isn't !)
Batch cooking difficult as the freezer is full, so made for today and tomorrow:
Large lasagne
Greek salad
Spanish omelette
I am desperate to watch the new Ben Wheatley film high rise , I am sure it was supposed to be released to watch online at the same time , his last film was, but I can't seem to find it anywhereone cinema is showing it nearby but it's £9 each and probably four of us will want to go. Very annoying!

Dh has gone to work to tidy up, I did try and point out he could get all the staff (himself included of course) to do it first thing Monday morning, I think he just feels like he should be at work every day, roll on the mini cruise as he wont be able to pop into work then
Aims for today:
Cook roast -lamb
Do all washing up to date, only a few loads
Update mfw2016 figures
Watch a film later on (at home :money:)
Maybe a mooch around the garden centre, I am feeling very springlike at the momentMFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Sounds like a good day newgirly, easier to get the washing done when the weather is good.
I went to the garden centre yesterday, got a few potted herbs but if the sun had been out I could have happily wandered round a lot longer.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Don't go to the garden centre in the end , sat and talked to dd about the factory instead
I've just fed the family 2 day our of date lamb! It did look ok , but I did call mr t and let them know as it should have a minimum 4 day date and it was only 2. They were really good and refunded more than the cost I said it was, and gave me a £10 online voucher, very good customer service :T
Going to do another online shop with them for next week now and then spend what's left on petrol from the budget this month.:D
Need to update mfw 2016 figures , I have updated once this year but it is not showing.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
Energy readings done and they have recommended I reduce the dd from £190 to £143 this month :j have set it at £150 and will keep a close eye. The extra £40 pm can go towards the cc budget for food ,petrol and most their bits and bobs, I may now stretch it over until the 1st April like I had hoped to do.
Online shop ordered for Thursday from mr t and with the £10 discount voucher and £5 refund it's only cost £28  shredded wheat , mini eggs and chocolate ordered ready for making birds nests to go on Easter cake at the weekend as I think I'll do an Easter tea and cake family get together one day. Chocolate is one of the easiest ways of tempting teens out of their rooms.
Dd went to see Adele at the o2 last might with my mum, apparently she talked about primark knickers for quite some time, she was very good though. They had champagne in the VIP area , I don't know, how the other half live :rotfl:
I had a letter through the post yesterday from school, informing me of courses running during the holidays for maths intensive revision - it clashes with the one already booked with the tutor, very annoying as he could have done the school one instead if they had sent the letter earlier! Nothing on their website when I booked it and ds couldn't ask the teacher involved as he was off sick for a few days, oh well, at least he is getting extra help either way.
Must get up for work now, but could easily stay in bed all day, the sun is streaming in through the velux Windows and me and the cat are very comfy.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
