One job of this week's list done - the wall in the hallway is stripped, also tried some surveys and had a nsd for the first time in a long time.

DD was very upset last night about her exams, she wants at least a C for maths and so far has a D, and although can re-take to get a better grade in nov and then next year, she is really panicking, so I have said we will get her a private tutor. She has 2 friends at school with them so hopefully we can get one recommended who is good. She is a very hardworking girl, goes to all the lunchtime/after school revision classes etc. even asked for more classes at school, so its really the only thing left I can do. My maths skills are limited to balancing the current acct and thats about it!:D
I'm slightly scared about the cost as almost virtually every penny is accounted for in our budget so it wll have to come from the mortgage payments :( We can always add a few months back on when we come to re-mortgage in a year and a half.

Well don on all the Xmas organising! I'm sure you can claw the money from somewhere - you always seem to manage to come up trumps in the end! :D

I'd go for the tutoring with DD. I'd consider it with my DD. I'm actually a bit of a maths whizz (I wanted to be a maths teacher for a long time) but don't think DD and I would cope with each other (bit like parents teaching their children to drive...!) It's an area she really struggles with

I'd be tempted with the tutor as well, Maths is so important in work & everyday life. Maybe speak with the school first though to see what they think & to see if there are any other resources your DD can use at school?? My DD's school has an online Maths website that she can access at home (with a password) & it lets her practice her Maths skills.

Also, I don't know if you're aware, you can get GCSE Maths books in places like 'The Works' cheapie book shop, it helps with revision etc. The one I got for my DD was £2.99. There's also the BBC website, 'Bitesize' I think it's called.

Hi, yes she does already have maths dvd's from school and online school and non school maths websites she uses. We are waiting for her friend to bring the number of her tutor who has worked wonders, fingers crossed. I will ask her if she still uses bitesize though pinkpoppy, I know she used to.

Its cold in here at the moment, 17 degrees and the kids were cold when they got up. For some reason though I am fine sitting here in a t'shirt, maybe its early menopause but I am going to make the most of it :rotfl:

Working from home all day today, then tonight I'm off to dd's school for a meeting tonight at 7pm, which clashes with emmerdale's live episode I was looking forward to ( don't judge me :p) kids eh, we had also planned a day trip to bury st edmunds xmas market with my parents at the end of nov. thats has now been replaced with a college open day, I swear its a conspiricy to spoil my fun!

This was Monday's to-do list for the week:
    • do about 3 days work for dh..........:D
    • undercoat the kitchen walls.......:D
    • clear hallway of tools/leaky bags of plaster etc.:(
    • cook from freezer/cupboards except milk/bread all week:D
    • finish blanket I've been knitting for a year:(
    • check for free cinema tickets on sky:D
    • Strip one wall in the hallway...........:D
    • join the flyladies and stick to it!:(
    • do surveys EVERYDAY.:D
I have done a little bit better with the to-do list this week, but still not everything!

Today is very exciting as dh bought me a heated airer, it is instead of using the tumble dryer (which I hardly ever do) , or the numerous airers in the conservatory that takes days to dry.

It costs under 5p per hour to use and dries 2x loads overnight, so it should be aa lot cheaper than the TD or sticking the heating on to get the school stuff done in time.

I'm down to £24 for the rest of the month's food now, which I will probably spend in iceland later today, I have 8 days to get through then we are going to alton towers overnight, then I can start spending nov's food budget when we get back more or less

I have just looked at the heated airer online...never even knew they existed!! Can I ask...do the rails get hot like on a heated towel rail or does it blow heat??

Also how much was it...the one i have seen on Lakeland was £85 i think:eek:
    2019 Totals: Savings: £929.53 / Mortgage OP - £746.32

Grocery challange April: £130.17of £500 target remaining

Hi Laura, its only been up a couple of hours and it heats up like a towel rail but not as hot, you can touch it. Its the 3 tier one from lakeland ( £85 :o) I have been looking at it for ages and thought its just too dear, however it says under 5p Ph to run and I think a Td is about £1 ish an hour judging by the reasearch I did online before buying it, so it should pay for itself ok. Its supposed to work a lot quicker if you put a sheet over it to trap heat, which I believe is quite safe, there are cheaper ones on ebay but I felt that with good reviews a bit more confident especially as it will be left on overnight.

Hi Pawlala, I didn't even notice but thanks  :D
