DVD wont play via my new USB Stick

Options
I bought a dvd player which allows you to plug in a usb and play divx
I had a 1gb stick which works fine. I bought a 16gb one so i wouldn't have to keep removing files to fit new ones on. I upload a divx tv episode but when i selected the file on the dvd it came back unsupported file.
Episode works fine on my 1gb stick

What could be the problem. Is there something special I should do to the new stick. tried Format FAT32 came back saying windows couldn't format it and that took over an hour

This is what I got - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168914

I suspect you will need to format the 16gb stick as FAT32. Why your windows box is complaining about it I could not say. Perhaps it would help to clear any existing partition table on it first before trying to format it.

I've had a problem using a 16GB USB stick with a Cyclone Micro video player. When I plugged in the stick the player kept saying that it needed to be formatted, which I couldn't understand because I had formatted it to NTFS in Windows, and the manual said that the player should recognise this.

Anyway, it turned out that I hadn't formatted the stick correctly. I changed the default cluster size to 4096KB (it's one of the drop down options in the format menu) and hey presto - it's worked fine ever since.

I know it isn't the same problem as yours but it might be worth checking out.

    Cheers

tried formatting NTFS and it came back couldnt format it.

So now gonna try FAT32 with the 4096kb.
Not sure why formatting is failing each time. I wouldnt care but its a lengthy process

Hope this solves it or ive wasted getting it for my player. id have thought if the player didnt like it, it would say so instead of displaying the content and refusing to play it

    - You don't say your O/S but Win7 will not do 32bit

    - you'll need a ' SwissKnife ' to do it in Win7, and Win7 does not like SwissKnife, eventually it will let you install / run / format with SwissKnife.
    - Even when your format is complete you will be told it hasn't worked. Pull the memory stick, re-boot the puter and your 32bit formatted stick will be there and perfect.

Two other alternatives, get a mate with WinXP to format it for you - or - does your new dvd player have a format facility in the menu somewhere !

Didn't they update Vista to 'Fat64' (exFAT) with a service pack that caused all sorts of carnage? I remember something in the distant past about it causing issues with USB sticks? Nothing solid, but it was mentioned in a few places.

NTFS is not ideal for Flash drives. The way it works effectively wears the drive out faster than FAT or Ext2/3/4
