On the other side of the coin we got our mortgage through Santander and there was no problems what so ever. In fact it will all pushed along very quickly (21 days from offer to completion).

I'm curious to know who you work for.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

That should be everyones' experience. It is a great shortcoming of Santander that it isn't.

People accept mortgage applications being difficult between application and offer. Once the offer has been made then the only reason it should be withdrawn is if there is actual evidence of fraud.

Responsibility for shoddy admin proceedures must stay with the lender, the borrower should NEVER be inconvenienced by that. So if it comes to light that the mortgage application has been badly processed, the mortgage companies should be forced to take it on the chin and resolve any outstanding issues without putting an entire property chain at risk.

    Santander behaved abysmally over this.

Ive been with Abbey (Santander) since I was 8 and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They gave me a piggy bank when I opened my first account and I should have realised there was something fishy about them then if they thought my money would be better off in a plastic pig, but to their credit at least they did try and warn me.

    Hi,

my boyfriend is boying a flat, asked for a loan at Santander, there were no problems. Offer made, contracts exchanged, confirmed release of funds last week. Monday our solicitor gets a fax they have withdrawed the offer because they need extra documents (which were not asked in the first place!). We gave them everything the following day, and since then we heard absolutely nothing from them. We've been calling and going there everyday, spoke to the branch manager, but no one is getting back to us. the completion is today, and we now expect to have a notice to complete today (that means 10 days to complete as far as i know - but will we get the morgage?). Does anyone know if the bank is allowed to do this? Help... we haven't slept in days :-(

I am so sorry to read about this, would the banking ombudsman be able to step in I wonder. I am also having major issues with Santander, I have lost one property due to the time they took , found another property which is £40,000 less than the first property. Santander requested we resubmit all our paperwork again. Did this the same day and waited and waited for 14 days....they then asked for more information, which they had overlooked to request when they agreed in principle the previous offer. The additional infomration was faxed by return. More days elapsed and my broker called them yet again only to be told that the whole office were being put on gardening leave that day as they were relocating to Glasgow, he was then told that all the paperwork we had submitted which was addressed to the Abbey must be resubmited but addressed to Santander, but although nothing had been approved two days later they then sent out the surveyor !! We resent the ammended paper work yet again and the mortgage has been approved and 9 days later I am still wating for the written mortgage offer. My mortgage advisor has made a complaint to the rep but I expect it will fall on deaf ears. But to cut to the chase they have laid off a whole team due to relocation, which I suppose is why the cutomer is experiencing such shoddy service.

I was with Abbey for decades and they were great.

Following the changeover, time after time, nothing but idiotic problems. My feeling is that Abbey empowered their employees, whereas Santander punishes them for independent thought.

Santander is, I believe, Spanish for ‘disaster area’. AVOID!!!!!
