Santander withrawed mortgage offer completion is today

Hi,

my boyfriend is boying a flat, asked for a loan at Santander, there were no problems. Offer made, contracts exchanged, confirmed release of funds last week. Monday our solicitor gets a fax they have withdrawed the offer because they need extra documents (which were not asked in the first place!). We gave them everything the following day, and since then we heard absolutely nothing from them. We've been calling and going there everyday, spoke to the branch manager, but no one is getting back to us. the completion is today, and we now expect to have a notice to complete today (that means 10 days to complete as far as i know - but will we get the morgage?). Does anyone know if the bank is allowed to do this? Help... we haven't slept in days :-(

That he's never heard something like this before. that it still might happen today. He's been chasing the bank as well, but with little luck. What's really upsetting is the way we are being treated by Santander. Any advice?

Is the required paperwork simple stuff, just overlooked, or something complex that is going to take time to produce ?

What a nightmare! I have no real advice but I hope its all sorted out soon.

Do you have a local Santander you could go into and speak to someone in person?

every sympathy, barclays did exactly the same thing to us. our mortgage took ages to process, they lost and found our documents several times. then right at the last minute, they decided that they didnt have a form with our signature on it for something or other, said that the mortgage offer shouldnt have been made without it, yet we were never asked for that initially

then some frantic running round, needing to forward ALL the documents again, barclays said that they had no way of checking whether a fax had been received by their processing department and couldnt email internally!!!!!

i was in tears most of the time. we wrote a complaint, marked urgent, after completion they wrote back to say that they were looking into it,,, we have never had a response (a year ago)

    hate them all

we produced all required documents straight away (a P60 and a letter from employer -they had payslips before). we've been speaking with the branch manager in person in the past couple of days but looks like he's useless!

How late were you in the end, and what were the (economic) consequences? We are just scared now of having to pay enormous lateness fees. It's incredible they can get away with it so easily..!

Branch managers are only messenger boys as far as mortgages are concerned these days with most lenders. You needed to send all the papers direct to the mortgage centre that the offer came from. That's who your solicitor will be talking to.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

We (via solicitor) did send all missing documents to the mortgage center, but haven't had a reply... is the only thing to do really just wait?
