Santander withrawed mortgage offer completion is today

I actually had this happen to me with Abbey(Santander) the day before completion!
After much stress our Solicitor managed to speak to Someone "high up" in Abbey's Underwriting department, who agreed they were acting like idiots & released the funds. If your Solicitor is having no luck you could always try calling them yourself?
Good Luck, hope you get it sortedThanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -
Sorry i might have confused things a bit. Having had no replies or feedback from the mortgage center via our solicitor, we personally went to speak with the branch manager to try and put some pressure on them.
Have you thought of going round to the head office and then pretty much refusing to budge until somebody sorts this out for you? It's a pretty desperate situation you're in, so it calls for pretty desperate measures. I must say that I'm pretty outraged with Santander on your behalf.
Have you contacted Santander's complaints department to see if they can sort this out?
I don't want to upset you, but has your solicitor explained all the costs involved in not completing on time?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Where do you get your ideas from?.......Complaints dept within FS have a timescale to work to!.............Also, have you overlooked it is down to the lender who they choose to lend money to......0 -
So, what do you think the OP should do, Vigilant? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

You are correct of course, however it is Santander's incompetent u/w's who failed to ask for the documentation before now, so they should pull their fingers out & get it sorted (like they did for me)
If I were the OP & the failed completion cost me money (which it is likely to do) then I would be asking Santander to foot the bill. Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0 -

Hi,
Offer made, contracts exchanged, confirmed release of funds last week. Monday our solicitor gets a fax they have withdrawed the offer because they need extra documents (which were not asked in the first place!). We gave them everything the following day, (
Santander knew the time scale and had obviously NOT checked the documentation they had available.
If all of the documents requested were provided to them on Tuesday, and assuming that those documents supported the information the offer was based on then what grounds do the bank have for failing to ensure the completion deadline is met? They have had 2 days now.
If banks are confirming mortgages then back-tracking when the funds are due to be released then they really do need the massive kick up the !!!!! they have been inviting for a while now. The fact that more than one person has posted on this thread to say it has happened to them is horrifying!
Such behaviour is completely unacceptable. Of course lenders have the right to decide who they loan money to, but they should not have the right to withdraw offers at the 1th hour unless they have totally justified and fully explained grounds for doing so.
This instance smacks of administrative error.
OP, consider contacting your MP as quickly as possible if this has not been resolved since you last posted. Also contact the papers, and tell Santander you are taking both courses of action. My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Write a press release and then send it to the bank's press office for comments? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

When this happened to me, my solicitor pointed out very calmly that she would intend to present this bill to Abbey, they very quickly got things sorted & the money was released. My guess is that the OP's solicitor hasn't yet spoken to the right person. Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0
