I don't understand why, if these flights were available to purchase from BA, did they not ask to be transferred to them?
I'm obviously not sure how this all works so maybe someone will have a reason why it can't be done.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

We have just returned home after being stranded in the USA for an additional 8 days.
Our flights were booked with United Airlines through ebookers. Does anyone know if either of these companies have offered any compensation to travellers who have been stranded? I know they are not obliged under EU regs, but wasn't sure if I had any chance of getting anything from them.
Also, we used 'travel-insurance-web' for our travel insurance. Has anyone had any joy getting compensation in terms of hotel costs/ food costs incurred?
Thanks!0 -
Sorry cannot provide answers to some of the above posts, but do have a potential tip for those still stranded. We have just got back from Paris (due to fly back last tuesday to Newcastle - family of six). As soon as the flight was cancelled we tried to get the next flight home and found it was next tuesday, and we opted for any flight to the Uk and got Edinburgh today (saturday), as long as we waived the right to charge easyjet any costs for our edinburgh-newcastle leg of the journey (given we were facing own costs of eurostar of £900 as an alternative, we took this happily). Although the Newcastle flight today was showing full right up until departure, we went to the airport early and explained the situation. We were put on standby for the Newcastle flight, and ventured that even if the two youngest children plus OH could get on that one, the rest of us on Edinburgh flight as rescheduled, it would be a huge relief. As it turned out, all six of us got on the Newcastle flight, and the plane had at least 20 empty seats (probably caused by those who could not fly out not coming back). Being fair to easyjet, short of phoning everyone who should have and didn't fly out, they have no way of knowing that people are not going to take up their return flights unless the people have fully cancelled, and they cannot really give the flight away until 40 mins before departure. If you are close-ish to the airport, and can bear the potential disappointment, and want to get home, this has to be worth bearing in mind. I suspect there may have been places on the earlier flights in the week had we tried. My mum and dad coming back from Majorca reported the same situation (i.e plane half full). It was a bit of a panic getting 2 adults and 4 small children through security/baggage once they were willing to give the seats up (35 mins before take off) but we were helped all of the way. I have yet to claim our extra accom & food costs, but we were assured by easyjet that it would be paid for. Just glad to be home. xxxxxx0

Finally, I hope, flying home to London tomorrow, 10 days after our original flight was cancelled from Orlando. First flight cancelled on 15th, then second flight cancelled on 20th, rebooked after a great deal of hassle for the 30th but called BA when we realised that they were still selling tickets for earlier flights from Orlando. BA finally agreed to fly us home via Miami but they took some persuading.
Wish us luck for tomorrow0 -

My plane from Turkey to Manchester yesterday came back with 6 empty seats - and that was after 29 stranded passengers were given seats after check-in had closed. The East Midlands flight went only half full.
So I would second the suggestion that, if you are close enough to get to the airport and are prepared for the possibility of not getting a seat, or willing to go to a different airport and make your own way home from there, it is worth going to the airport and asking to be put on stand-by.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hey there,
If there are any BA travelers reading this thread who are still trying to return home/ unable to return home on the date they want - BA's website has been updated with a form you can fill in. The form will help BA identify where extra capacity may be needed most, and accelerate rebooking of customers where they can operate further flights.

Same here, our EasyJet flight from Sharm El Sheikh To London Luton last night was 1/3 empty and we've seen some families in our resort waiting until the 31st to fly back. We've arrived to the airport 3 hours before departure expecting to see crowds storming check-ins. There was no one at check-in, only us.0 -

Great idea. You also need to consider how to reach the people with no internet connections. According to the Sunday Times there are people stuck in the basement of Bangkok airport just waiting to hear about flights home. No idea if the are waiting for BA flights or not, but they are sleeping in cardboard boxes and can't leave the basement.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
