FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS: Volcano ash from Iceland hits UK flight plans

Finally home, flew out of Orlando via Miami to Heathrow.
BA didn't want to give us the flights, saying that we had booked direct so if we wanted to fly home from Miami we would have to make our own way to Miami from Orlando. We told them that our original booking was via Chicago so they finally agreed to fly us via Miami.
Arrived home yesterday morning, still NO LUGGAGE... thanks BA.0 -
Self employed lost nearly 2 grand, Should have return last week with easyjet told nothing until 30th imagine my anger to discover they were selling tickets for yesterday £320 a go, returned back on that plane down another £320 which was two thirds empty leaving my family behind thousands of miles from home, my wife unable to work three sons unable to attend school absolute disgrace and people claim it was an act of god, health and safety gone mad again more like it.
Never again EasyJet will you get my custom, but the wonderful people of Cyprus will.0 -
Was in Cyprus meant to come home on 15th, got cancelled and rescheduled to Bristol on the 19th. Then got cancelled again and rescheduled to May 2nd.
Got lots of threatening letters from EJ under our hotel door saying they were stopping our free accommodation from 25th as they had put rescue flights on. Transferred onto one, but had to pay out of own pocket. They left lots of people stranded without acc and transfers - we even organised a transfer for us and 50 other people who couldnt afford the 70 Euro cab journey to the hotel from the airport on one ocassion when we were cancelled.
EJ haven't been as bad as other airlines but they still have broken the law on the regulation 261/2004 on a lot of ocassions. Just finished my letter for reimbursement of flights and taxi fares so will let you know the outcome.
SInce we were there for a week and a half we had to buy things like soap and shampoo that we had run out of. Anyone know if you can claim back £ for these?0 -
:mad:Hi,
Finally got back from Spain yesterday morning after nightmare few days stranded in Spain without any help from anybody official only advice from this site - thank you. Now I'm back I want to make claim to refund some of the money I had to pay out. I am worried though because I tried to save money and booked flights and accomodation through lowcostholidays. They have sent me an email after I contacted them for assistance saying that "your holiday has been dynamically packaged and we act as a booking agent for third party suppiers" What does this actually mean? Has anybody else had any dealings with them and are they trying to get out of any liability? Also does it mean because I booked with them I won't be able to make a claim with Monarch who were the flight providers. My insurance was through Advantage Gold Nat West and I paid for the holiday using my credit card.
Please advise as my stress levels have already been through the roof and I have high blood pressure anyway!!!!!
we also booked through lowcostholidays and have just returned today,6 days late, but our original booked flight wasnt cancelled so as planned we went to the airport on time, stood in line to check in only to be told that our flight was full, monarch had sold our tickets to other people, not just ours but lots of other people aswell,
monarch were no help we were left stranded at the airport with 3 children at 11pm with no where to sleep that night, luckily we managed to get sorted out ourselves but now have no idea who i should be claiming off for all the extra expense we had.:mad:when your life is a mess light one more cigarette its so logical!!
get up and dance, get up and smile, get up and drink to the days that are gone in the shortest while :T
There's no profit in peace boys we better fight some more:(0 -
ABSOLUYELY AGREE -never again easyjet. They were holding back seats for new fare paying passengers from egypt. we should have had a FREE transfer to the next available flight???? we came back by egyptair - great!!!Self employed lost nearly 2 grand, Should have return last week with easyjet told nothing until 30th imagine my anger to discover they were selling tickets for yesterday £320 a go, returned back on that plane down another £320 which was two thirds empty leaving my family behind thousands of miles from home, my wife unable to work three sons unable to attend school absolute disgrace and people claim it was an act of god, health and safety gone mad again more like it.

First ever comment on this wonderful site. Now home after spending a further £300 for another flight with EJ when EJ wanted me to wait another two weeks. My Wife and family are also stuck away; I have not the money to risk awaiting refunds I suspect will never happen
EJ are selling seats to stranded customers and telling them they can not reclaim the money until they return and make a claim in writing. Is it just me who thinks they will not honour this agreement?
And why not cancel the seats so others can use them?
I will also not be using EJ again, they clearly are seeking to make a profit out of a disaster rather then do what they are contracted to do and return customers home. The lack of information at airports, threats and treating customers like cattle tells me EJ do not care. They had 17 people waiting on standby for my flight, yet we left with empty seats
Must say James Villas are top draw and have my respect
If you read this and still stuck abroad complain and force them not to get away with this, most of all good luck, you will need it, people in the UK do not know how bad this is0 -
Does anyone have any template letters for claiming through credit card provider?
Thanks
Edit: Would this claim count if you paid for the flights on the CC, but paid for extra costs (i.e accommodation) on a debit card?

I have posted before, given we were stranded and had (as many others have had) a return date much later than we would have liked. But planes are coming back half full, and have done so since the problem arose (they are half full because no-one could get out, so the return flight is bound to be empty). It is definitel worth trying at the airport if you are still genuinely stranded. Admittedly, stressful, but not as stressful (and costly) as trying to make it overland at your own cost. HTH sal xxx0

We were booked on a Virgin holiday to Las Vegas and due to return last thurs and amongst over 500 virgin holiday customers who have been given no date as yet to return to the UK.
If we had been customers of virgin atlantic we could have rebooked our own flghts home - but as virgin holiday customers we can not do this. Indeed we have met customers with other companies that rebooked and returned today. It is incredible to me that Virgin atlantic and Virgin holidays are behaving in such a manner.
We were again today promised a call tonight from the Virgin rep in Las Vegas confirming our flight home - but again no call.
Totally appalling!!!
Totally DISagree with you. We were stranded in las vegas for 7 additional days (were due to fly home on 20th). Virgin holidays were fantastic - they put us up in Circus circus hotel and gave us free access to the all day buffet. The virgin rep was available in reception all day and left 2 messages on our phone. We were delighted to have a free additional week in Vegas
(I can think of worse places to be stuck) 0 -

We were stranded in LA for 8 days....Had a fairly anxious 36 hours after getting an email on the Friday evening from Virgin Atlantic confirming our flight home on the Saturday was cancelled and we couldn't get hold of anyone from Virgin Holidays.
We ended up spending one night at a Comfort Inn at LAX but, once I'd managed to speak to Virgin Holidays in Las Vegas on Sunday lunchtime they were superb and, even though we'd only booked a fly-drive + 3 nights accomodation with them, Virgin Holidays put us up in the Hyatt Regency at Anaheim for 5 nights, followed by the Hyatt at Long Beach for a further 2 nights.
We were very lucky, I know other people weren't as fortunate. We wouldn't have chosen to spend 8 days in LA, but if you have to be stranded somewhere, there are worse places than Disneyland! :rotfl:2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
