If you have travel insurance (and you should) call them - not only may they pay but they have advice and assistance services that can advise.

Same with Expedia claims, call your insurers, they can help (if they are half decent!).

Thanks Chris , absolutely have insurance (Insure and Go )!! they've washed their hands as an act of God , visa cant do anything unless I get a letter from Holiday Gems refusing to refund to my card ...which they wont give me??

Ryanair have adopted their usual stance of doing what they like, regardless of what any laws state.

Good luck from anyone getting cash from them on return.

Easyjet have also introduced a reasonable argument and reasonable can be argued in Court for years.

I look forward to the pages of reports which will come out of Govt/EU. EU airline/passenger laws are fine when there's a problem with a single airline, or Country. When it's for a Worldwide problem they are impossible for airlines to manage and passengers to enforce.

I&G have said that only a few of their policies are covering "Ash".

Package holiday, flight only? They are ATOL (according to their site) Their registration number is 3973 and is confirmed by ATOL site (http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=490&pagetype=65&appid=2&mode=detailnosummary&atolNbr=3973)

Suggest that ATOL (CAA) may help - but I bet it'll take you ages to call them!!!!

As far as Visa is concerned you could tell them that you will cancel your card and go to Mastercard instead!!!

You are fine. Thomas Cook is an operator on this Jet2 flight in this case (they have bought allocated seats from Jet2). As long as they haven't repackaged your entire holiday and they have not "booked Jet2 flights on your behalf" then you are completely safe. :)

If your insurance company is refusing to pay out because a volcano erupting is an act of God, ask which God.
If it's a Christian God could you say you don't believe in him, you're an atheist or perhaps a Muslim so should be paid out.

    Okay, here's the latest.

Flights from Orlando to London for myself, husband and daughter cancelled last Thursday 15th . Rebooked for tomorrow the 20th now also cancelled. Cant get new flights now until 30th April arriving in London May 1st.

Huge hotel bill, given car back as we can't afford to keep it, running out of Thyroxine medication. Supposed to be at work and will probably not be paid.

BA not helping at all, no communication except a text when the flights were cancelled, a very long wait on the phone and a ticket agent who couldn't help with anything except ticketing.

Emails to Thomas Cook tell me they are not responsible as they say we were booked through Expedia, we were not aware that we had booked through expedia as we had booked through Thomas Cook. Also Thomas Cook insurance say its not their problem.

Stranded or what, running out of money and cant afford hotel bill.

Can we claim anything back at all????
Just posted above on Orlando. Don't know if anything there will help you.(post 609)

I wonder if Ryanair being Irish makes any difference? I know the FSA have no duristiction over Eire but airlines? It's a thought.

Your "court for years" is not true - if you are really reasonable (Days Inn type hotel & fish & chips and not The Ritz & Caviar) they will cover that. Reasonable means "what you need to exist" not neccessarilly what you usually have or to "get what you can out of it" then that will be considered un reasonable.

Unfortunately ATOL and CAA are not involved with the Ash claims. It is not the same situation as when XL went bust, as it was an "act of God". You can try and go through the company that you booked it with, but I am afraid the above authorities will be a dead end.
