I am looking at a genuine letter from the HMRC and I can see some discrepancies.

On the specialist renewal team letter the website is underlined on the other one its not. ON the specialist one it states Tel/ and on the genuine one it says Phone and then the number it also has a fax number.

I am not sure if these letters are genuine.

My letter is not signed, it's like this:

Renewals Advisor
Cumbernauld Specialist Renewals Team

Director: Steve Lamey

His name is in the same size of text as the rest of it.

I received this today too. The phone number is 0845 600 5044 and it's come from the Cumbria Specialist Renewals Team.
Ref is also HVR/CUMB

I'm just gonna ring the normal number to be on the safe side. I don't find the renewal process confusing as they suggest so not sure why they would contact me about this?

I meant Cumbernauld!!

Has everyone got different addresses on theirs aswell? Mine is Charles House, Preston. This is really concerning me I keep trying the number too and it just goes to an answer phone saying wait for pack and leave details and someone will call back. I would never leave my details on an answer phone and seemed wrong that they are asking you to.

Yeah I have tried ringing for three days now and always get the answerphone message. My letter is from Charles House, Preston. Just from Renewals Advisor. with Paul Gerrard as director.

Just found an email address for Paul Gerrard on the internet. paul.gerrard@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

Think I might email him.

Ours seem to be identical then Ratcliff. Same number and address. Does a women leave the message and then if you keep listening it gives you options to delete or amend message. I've always completed mine over the phone with no problems and if I haven't had recieved this letter would have done the same this year with no worries. Seems the only thing causing the renewal process to be confusing is them.

Yeah I agree I have just emailed this Paul Gerrard and will let you all know what he says, if he does come back to me. Number to ring was 0845 600 5217.
I have just rang the number and spoke to a lady who confirmed that it is HMRC the letters are legit and that it is just so that they can make sure all the information is correct and to hopefully stop under and over payments being made. She did say that people can still renew like they used to via post or through the other number, that this was just another option.
