If this is genuine, they really need help with their grammar and letter writing skills.

HMRC/Tax credits is that staff are not allowed to write their own letters unless they have been specifically trained to do so, most staff are only able to select template letters which the name, address, reference fields are then automatically populated by the system.

I've just got through to my number and again she reassured me it wasn't a fake. Did not give her any details but she did say I had to ring through to the number on the letter as the normal process will not work. Then reassured me it was a pilot looking at people with complicated claims and definately not an investiagtion (which I never suggested). She informed me that if I went through the normal process it would not be able to be updated. However some people appear to have still carried out their review with no problems. This again is different information to what they have told others.

Gayle, i called the main number after receiving my letter which had no ref on it only my NI number and my renewal when through ok and had been accepted. I would call the main number today and say to them that u had this letter and was it stated on ur file that it had been sent out. plz let me know how it goes

Same as mine, it also says don't worry about the call cost we will phone you back..... thought that seemed abit odd. I will renew via normal number once I get my p60 and Ex's details

I can confirm the previous post about this new project. TCO's compliance section are now involved in this renewal process. Any one who got these will have received tax credits, during 09/10 above a certain level, that is why they have been selected. What will happen is when you call up to renew, the advisor will decide whether or not they are happy with the information you are supplying. If they are not, they will pass your details on to a compliance team who will be in contact with you to get confirmation that your details are as you claim. Nothing to worry about as long as you have played by the rules.

Compoff - Just to query - wouldn't it be the case anyway that if a renewal advisor wasn't happy with the information you have given them that they would pass over your details to a compliance team in anycase?? If these letters have only gone out to people receiving over a certain amount of tax credits does this mean these people are suspected of not giving the correct information??? I have one of these letters too, I have phoned the tax credits up, the advisor with whom I have spoke doesn't know anything about renewal specialist teams, the number on my letter just rings out and never gets answered (I have tried it numerous times now), the adviser has informed me that there are no notes on my file to advise my renewal will be dealt with by a different department - he spoke to his team leader who also knows nothing of a new renewal specialist team and has advised me to call the main renewal number. I work full time - leave the house at 7.30am don't arrive home until turned 5pm and so a number only accessible between 8am and 5pm is not convenient. I have read all the threads on here and they all hold conflicting information - how is anyone to know what is the right information and what is not?????
  • Im confused by this-not hard!:D

I dont get a lot in Tax Credits-I have a partner and 2 children, we both work he is ftime I am ptime.

Are theses letters not just randomly selected or is everyone else getting loads in Tax Credits and I am just unlucky? Just joking.

My employer never issues my P60 until late May so I have a wait..............
Wedding on hold until 2011. Mummy to DD1 3/2/6 DD2 5/10/7! Mortgaged to my eyeballs!
  • I called the number on my letter and they told me a few details that only TC would know, all i gave over was my NI number she was able to tell me my quotes and creche name etc. She said it is a pilot and that thousands of letters have been sent out and that u have to go through them. Even if u do go thorough the main number ur award will not be finalised as there dept have sent a signal on files for this not to be finalised. She agreed the letter was not good grammer and they had a few calls stating this but went though my award and finalised it for me.

I had previous called the main number too and they told me the same as everyone else to disregard it and carry on which she says they shouldn't of done and she would forward that on to her manager.

    Any other Questions ask away
  • Ive renewed mine this morning through the normal TC line and the man who I spoke to said to me that it was all done and I didnt need to do anything else I never mentioned the letter neither did he
I will be very annoyed if they turn round and stop our payment cos of not phoning the number on the letter
