I will be very annoyed if they turn round and stop our payment cos of not phoning the number on the letter
Wait till u get ur award notice and double check to make sure its a finalised award and not a provisional one, once they give that out thats it done for the year. I made the mistake once of not checking that and they stopped my payments.
Just check all ur paper wrk through and through and all will be good0 -
hi have also recieved one of these letters when you phoned the new number was it the same process of renewing as doing it through the usuall number?
many thanks0 -
Is it just the same renewal process but with another department?0
-
what did they ask you?0
-
Its the same kinda thing, they just ask u to confirm ur details and tell them ur earnings for last year and are there any changes. Same as main number0

But they sent it to the wrong address. They have my correct address as they have been sending my award notices to my new address, most recently on 15 February.
So I know they have my correct address, yet this one goes to my old address. Sorry but that makes alarm bells ring - FAKE LETTER!!!!!!!!
I also got a letter sent to my old address even though they have my new address on the system as I notified them straight away.
I rang tax credits and they have no record of any such letter and said they didn't send one.
He then said they wouldn't have sent one to my old address anyway and to wait for my renewal pack.0 -

when i called them (number on letter) they were able to tell me all about the recent changes id made just over the weekend and who my childcare provider was just by my national insurance number.
My record also didnt state a letter had been sent out but when i spoke to the main number again they told me that its a completely different place dealing with this section and that they can ascess more than the normal number can on their end and to call them to check all my award was processed ok.
Ive spoke to 3 different ppl in main office and 1 say they have never heard and the other 2 said they had heard of it.
The lady on letter number explained it was a new pilot and agreed it wasnt well thought out0 -
Agree that if its all genuine then they should be ashamed at how they have handled it.
Tax credits can be confusing enough at times without throwing more spanners into the works.
Are they saying you have to renew through that number or can you through the regular number?
Or how about ringing the regular number and getting put through to that dept by tax credits?
I just don't feel confident or happy in giving info out to someone when another dept has no clue and advises me to wait for them to issue a letter.
Also telling me that it is odd that I received a letter to my old address when I had updated with my new address a month ago.0 -
I've just got through to my number and again she reassured me it wasn't a fake. Did not give her any details but she did say I had to ring through to the number on the letter as the normal process will not work. Then reassured me it was a pilot looking at people with complicated claims and definately not an investiagtion (which I never suggested). She informed me that if I went through the normal process it would not be able to be updated. However some people appear to have still carried out their review with no problems. This again is different information to what they have told others.
I called the number today and she told me a signal is put on everones file and claims would not be fialised through the main office but when she looked at my renewal i did over the weekend she said that the signal had been lifted and it had been processed although it shouldnt of been but she closed the case and mines all done. so on some occasions it can be done. i did mine through the main number first then checked it with the office number given to claify things0 -
She told me (office number) that from now on i can call the main number with any changes. That my award had gone through.
I too was suspicious which is why i let her tell me who my childcare provider was and how much i pay and how many hours i wrk. I never told her these but she has access to this info just by my NI number.
I said at the start of the convo that i had received this letter and that there was suspicions of it legality and that i wasnt comfortable telling her my details so all she asked for was my NI number ad told me the rest that was in front of her.
Just explain the same and as her to confirm some questions only TC would no as u are cautious to say the least.
I asked her was it a new thing and she told me it was a pilot scheme and was genuine and explained about signals put on files holding finalised awards bck but she then told me mine had been and that the main number shouldnt of been able to but had.0
