In conjunction with Asda, Tommy’s the baby charity will be holding ‘Let’s Talk Baby’ events at 35 Asda stores on Thursday 29 July between 6.30pm to 8pm. Asda is kindly funding these events which will be free-of-charge to the public. On arrival each attendee will receive a free hot drink.
Tommy’s exists to give every baby the best chance of being born healthy and our research centres help hundreds of women each year who’ve experienced pregnancy complications. Events such as ‘Let’s Talk Baby’ help to provide expectant and new mums with information on caring for their child during and after birth.
On the evening, qualified midwifes will hold three 20 minute individual sessions which are as follows:
You and Your Baby: This will cover the different stages of pregnancy, including what happens at each stage for mum and baby.
Breastfeeding: This session will cover general questions on breastfeeding.
Baby Care: This will look at how to change a nappy, bathing a baby and equipment needed for baby. This session will also look at expectations once baby is born – covering areas such as lack of sleep and how to identify if your baby is sick.
The remaining 30 minutes of the event will consist of a question and answer session, giving Asda customers a chance to talk within the group or individually to the Tommy’s midwife or Asda’s pharmacist.
Asda has been supporting Tommy’s for over ten years; this year Asda is pledging to raise even more money for Tommy’s. This event takes place in conjunction with Asda’s ‘Baby and Toddlers’ event which will run from 24 July to 8 August.
If you have any questions regarding the ‘Let's Talk Baby; event, please email Rowan MacMillan on: rmacmillan@tommys.org

Hi all - i'm pregnant!

Well, actually, i'm not, partner is.

It's been a few years, so I just need some advice as things have probably changed.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of a site which details what an expectant father should understand and needs to know. We didn't have the internet back when my current crop were born and it's been a good few years as my youngest will be 10 next month.

I'd also appreciate any advice anyone can give to me to pass on to my partner. It's her first pregnancy and she's very anxious/nervous/scared and worried she'll lose the baby as she's not sure when she should slow down. She works 2 days a week in a GP surgery (so she has access to a fair bit of literature) and I have to admit i'm scared too (I was with all the others) and i'm already looking after her like an invalid. I like to do as much as I can to make her life as good as possible, but even I may be taking a bit too far when I worry about her making a cup of tea! She's only 3 weeks gone.

Sorry for the intrusion, but any good advice would be very gratefully received, especially that of which can be offered to by darling partner.

Don't worry, men are welcome too :D we already have Bufger, and I'm sure he is a super-dad-to-be now because he now knows exactly what not to do to annoy his gf :D

ETA: To not annoy his gf. You and he are in the unique position of knowing what we all moan about when you guys aren't usually about :rotfl:

Congratulations MOTM - Babycentre is good and will send you a weekly email through your pregnancy. I think it has a dads-to-be section too.

Motm can i recommend a book its called Pregnancy for men "the whole nine months" it is very whitty and i recommend your OH reads it to its full of information but is a very light read rather than the million one books out there that try to lay down the law and just end up confusing us poor women & men. I'm on my fourth pregnancy now and even i managed to learn something from it.

Congratulations and i hope she has an easy smooth pregnancy :-) x

My friend from college said that when she was pregnant with one of her girls she was told she was having a boy. Thats worrying me a bit now as we have been told we are having a boy and i think it was pigpen who said that she was told one of her daughters was going to be a boy. I wouldn't mind, its only worrying me because we have bought lots of boys clothes and boys things.

It is quite normal for girlbits to get quite swollen due to the hormones flying about and be mistaken for boy bits.. but yes they told me 3 times DD1 was a boy.. she isn't!

Just had a call to say my health visitor is visiting Wednesday.. What do they do on visits? She seemed v shocked I was still working! Strange!

Pigpen.. I've heard you mention how lovely Royce bras are recently, is there any particular ones you would recommend? Am thinking of getting one but there seems so many!

they bring the child health record thing.. red book here.. not sure what colour everywhere else has.. here they don't bring them to the house they wanted me to go to the health centre 3 miles away.. I told them to bog off I wasn't going! they are supposed to tell you what the HV's role is.. though what they don't tell you is they like to come up with stupid ideals and tell you your baby has delays and problems they don't actually have based on whatever idiotic training course they have been on recently.. Their advice, along with everyone elses is to be taken lightly and do what works best for you!

I have the royce sophie nursing bra

I'm not dead yet.. does that count for anything?

And if I don't do stuff who else will? I can't live in squalor!
