morning all
Sammy sorry you're still here! Can you make bf help with the cleaning?
In terms of big babies, SiL had a 10lb5oz boy 8 weeks ago, it all went pretty quickly though he did get stuck when head was just out. Apparently it was amazing, the midwife pressed the emergency alarm, a few midwives rushed in and they flipped SiL into a few positions and manipulated her pelvis and he came out. She did have to go to theatre to be sewn up. They hadn't realised how big he was (despite a late scan!).Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -

:D:D:D enjoyable at the minute because it feels like and i quote 'she's in the room' although eh had no problems when I was pregnant with our son. So I'm wondering if its to do with the fact that its a little girl that he feels awkward. So Im afraid the other is out at the minute - and since he knows the plug has gone he really isn't interested!:eek::eek::eek: Did have a friend suggest some 'DIY' but that seems like too much effort at the minute! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I had a 10lb 2oz baby and had to have a forceps delivery because she got completely and totally stuck! The hospital left me pushing for hours though and I didn't realise at the time that that was unusual until the mw shift changed and the incoming one was horrified
OH is an old hand at this though and I've asked him to give them what for if they try and do that to me again!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Krystaltips did a man pay you to say that? :rotfl:
ETA: I thought the sperm stimulated the cervix and that was what could start labour? pretty hard to do that if it went the wrong waybut I could just be way overthinking it.

Apparently it's just getting the prostaglandins (in the sperm) into your system somehow... (as that's what they use to induce you in the pessary) and the more regularly you have had sex throughout pregnancy the more chance you have of going into labour "on time" because you've built them up in your system... but yeah I think having them near the cervix is supposed to be a big help as well - so either method!
Speaking of which I have a question.
Me and OH had sex yesterday and on Tuesday and both times I have started with Braxton Hicks that have been accompanied by period cramps for hours and hours after. Last night they were a lot stronger, every few mins with cramps building up and then subsiding, from about 8 through most of the night!!
In your experiences ladies would you say that if we keep on DTD in the next few weeks this is likely to turn into proper contractions? Or is it entirely possible that it could just go on like this for ages and never turn into anything more?
I just don't want to get my hopes up every time it happens! Although at the mo would still be counted as premature (until tomorrow).
Can't believe I am 9th on the list.
Sammy massive labour vibes to you hopefully getting the flat sorted will help xxx0 -

I'm diabetic, so have had a couple of ante-natal classes now where the midwives have told us all about the "best" ways to give birth, minimise discomfort in labour etc - but each time said "this doesn't apply to you" to me. So today I sat down with the diabetes/ante-natal people I see at the hospital and asked if I have any birth options at all...
They've basically told me that, due to the baby likely to be big, I will need to have either induction at 38 weeks or a c-section. For both I'm going to be on 2 drips (glucose and insulin), plus an epidural (for c-section at least). I hate needles, but have had to learn to deal with them during pregnancy, but the thought of having so many, plus potentially major surgery (c-section), not to mention the worry of the baby being poorly/taken straight into special care is making me stress out in a big way. I honestly think that if I'd known about all this beforehand I might have thought twice about getting pregnant in the first place...
Can anyone tell me anything positive about c-sections etc to help me deal with this?
I have had 2 both emergency ones and am due an elective in november.
My first c-section was very rushed and done under general so it wasn't the greatest of feelings, however my second went like a dream, it was calm very relaxed etc.
The nurse talked me through and reassured me all the way through the epidural which wasn't as bad as you would imagine more a strange sensation than anything else.
The whole procedure took hardly anytime at all and DH and i were chatting the whole time and he explained what he could see etc.
I held the baby whilst they stitched me up ect then onto the ward.
I felt great afterwards and was up and about within hours!!!
Please do not think that c-sections are awful they are just another way of birthing.
Also think of it this way no pelvic floor troubles for you!!!!!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
Btw on the C-section front there are still lots of options that you can talk through, for example:
- If you want to have skin-to-skin straight afterwards (and breastfeed if you want), or if you can't then your partner
- If you want to see the baby being lifted out
My auntie had 2 natural births and then an elective C-section and she says the section was a dream compared to the first 2. I think as long as you have been given all the information and made your choices (which is much more likely with an elective than an emergency) you can still have a really positive birth experience.
Not that I've had one but from talking to various people that's what seems to be the case!
Good luck x0 -
Morning Ladies hope bumps are behaving.
Apparently its going to be the hottest day ofthe year today wonderful NOT!!
Had a good nights sleep but woke up with terrible legs cramps again at least they waited until i was awake.
I have read back but cant remember who posted about OH being a pita about getting up with their child. You sulk good and proper today make sure he feels really guilty and have a good old cry infront if him :-) x
I have a phil & teds pushchair to be honest i wasnt very keen at all before i got it but it was the only one i could afford that wasnt the size of a bus anyway i love it now and cant believe how easy it is to manouver around my only little niggle with it is to put the seat up and down there are straps instead of a lever system getting it down isnt a problem but to get it back up with bubs in is a bit of a job.
Prudence it may well help and turn them into proper contractions your body will only go into labour when it is ready though so unless your enjoying DTD then i wouldnt put to much pressure on yourself to continue if you are then just get on with it its not going to do any harm and it probably will help when the time comes :-)
Delain apparently swallowing does make it work quicker than just having it near the cervix something about the chemicals needed getting into the blood stream quicker. To be honest though in this heat its the last thing i want to ingest if it came out chilled that would be a different matter :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -

Thanks, I am actually enjoying it amazingly despite the logistical difficulties... so is there no chance you could induce labour when the baby isn't ready (like they do sometimes with the pessary)? It will just come when it is ready and DTD may help start it off?
I feel really sick0 -
