I don't feel too worried about the newborn bit - I've been lucky enough to be around newborns a bit and although its different with your own, eeek, I feel ok with that. DH on the other hand has only held a couple of babies in his life and was v self conscious about it, but I think it will be different when it's hours. It's the birth that completely freaks me out. I will be happy to stay in for a night and get help to make sure I am feeding ok (I really want to bf for all kinds of reasons) but I'll just see how it goes. DH is talking about paying for a private room for me if so as he doesn't want me to be in a ward! I don't know what they do at my hospital to be honest!
I am also into ebay at the moment, currently highest bidder on a lightshade to match the curtains and a mobile. I know I could get these things new but they seem great condition and my thinking is if they're not I can just resell them! I should probably increase my max bids to my top price though and then just leave it as someone suggested!
I am feeling a lot more human this week. I've been eating more and more regularly and it seems to have helped. I am even reading a book (haven't been bothered about reading for months!).
Maybe I am being selfish but I'm a bit sad as my best friend seems to be completely up her own a*se at the moment. I know she has a lot on but she hasn't once text to ask how I am, or asked when replying to my texts. And yet I get loads of texts from her moaning about things that are going on, like about 4 in a row the other day. I just don't think I could be that selfish!
sir monster - thanks re the xt, i will see what dh says. tbh i'm pretty set on it as although I like the baby jogger city mini i don't think he will! I might just order it!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
Bexta if you can handle a toddler you will have no problems with a newborn they dont riggle or try to get away and changing their clothes is easier to as they just let you get on with it they are also very bendy so you wont break them. My bubs is 9 months now and i end up chasing him around the living room trying to get his nappy and his clothes back on i literally have to pin him down sometimes trust me newborns are so much easier to look after :-)
Ewww pigpen i hate hospital omlettes i lived on custard and toast when i had to stay in it was the only thing that was edible its no wonder i was back into my size 8 clothes within 5 wks of having number one i just wish i could do it now but i figure my size 8 days are well and truely gone now i would be ecstatic to get back to size 12 ;-)
The new hospital here only has privates rooms there is no shared ward and to be honest i found it really boring and isolating even though i was only there for 12 hrs this time the other moms were the only thing that kept me sane when i had to stay in with number one and two so i'm kinda glad i was let out this time round :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
It used to be a 10 day stay in hospital didn't it? I know when mum had me and my sister she had to stay 10 days, although that was in Australia. When she had my brother, she left at the first possible opportunity (they gave her cold lamb and gravy for lunch - she didn't want to see what they were giving for tea!)
Mum was also telling me that when she had me she was booked in for c section at 38 weeks (i was breech, back to front and her pelvis was too flat to let a baby out!), her waters broke in the middle of the night at 37 weeks and my dad (now divorced!) made her walk along the road in the snow in her nighty to the hospital!!!! they didn't have a car but still! :eek:Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
I'm with pigpen, I'll be out of hospital as soon as I'm fit to walk. When I had my son I went in on the Tuesday am as my hind waters had broken, 11 days early, was in labour by 1.30 am Wed had him by 6.30 am and stayed a couple of nights, asked on Fri am to leave and was out by lunchtime. I think it's much easier to get into a routine and less hassle for everyone when your at home.
Re breastfeeding was planning to give it a go last time but as I had pethidine in the later stages of labour ds was too sleepy to latch on, couldn't even suck a bottle had to be fed milk off a spoon, after 12 hours of this I was so worried he wouldn't be getting enough I decide to FF, hasn't done him any harm. I'm all prepared with bottles etc but I'll give BF a go this time but I'm not going to stress if it doesn't work out.
Re prams I think maclaren is hard to beat, I bought 5 yes 5 prams with ds as I kept changing my mind, too bulky, poor steering etc etc and end up with a maclaren which as fab, lightweight, compact and fulyy functional of course it dependson s lot of factors like off roading, car etc but maclaren is an excellent all rounder.
Bufger hope things are ok, my hind waters went in late pregnancy last time but I felt a pop and it was a constant trickle, having to change every half hour, when my main waters went it was definetly more of a gush and I would say a pint or so of clear liquid both waters smelt like man juice/sterile if that makes sense. I have to agree with others discharge can be a surprising amount during pregnancy, sex leftovers could be another reason and urine leakage could be another. I am surprised the hospital didn't give Mrs B a quick scan to check the amount of fluid around baby. I would suggest wearing a pad and checking every hour or so to. Hope things go well.
Re surestart grant
got my letter confirming I'm getting it tomorrow, I'm really surprised I didn't think we would be eligible so if anyone is wondering wether to apply or not I'd say go for it - 8 days from leaving in app to payment into bank account !! And it's my 30th birthday tomorrow so going to get my locks coloured and restyled, as Cheryl says I'm worth it !!Busy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:0 -
KitKat glad your OH has done some housework and made dinner. I think it is my turn to be mad at DH seems like he is always having a go at me, do x this way, don't do this (mainly stuff round the house). Came home late tonight after going for drinks and then started having a go at me for leaving the filter jug out - even though I just got it out to make his gravy for his food. Even though he was in the kitchen, he didn't bother fill it up or put it away - expects me to do it :mad:

Glad you got the surestart grant MLSL. When I phoned citizens advice they thought I would be eligible too but I have to wait until the baby is born and I have applied for child benefit and tax credits as I don't get either currently. Hope I can get it too, it would come in very handy!
Just been to Lidl, within 1 day they have sold out of the body pillows! I am gutted! The baby feels absolutely massive today, I can feel the head is stil down and low but my rib cage has lifted further and there's bits of baby pushing my skin out, think I need a bigger bra as it's very tight tonight! Think this baby is guna be BIG!0 -
Wow littlesis that was quick i posted mine yesterday so im hoping i will get it in the next couple of weeks also posted my Hip form off on saturday but im not sure how long it is taking for those to be sorted i think it took 2 weeks last time. Has anyone had theirs yet and how long did it take. I'm hoping ive got my forms in before they scrap it all in the budget i can see it happening they are already on about making child benefit means tested and stopping it for kids over 13 the means tested bit i can kind of understand but do they not realise that kids get more expensive the older they get not cheaper !!:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Fernlie, that's an awesome site isn't it? If my brain had been working this morning I was going to recommend it for the sling, the baby clothes are pretty funky too.
Delain, yay for magic jeans!
Hi newbies!!
Bufger, at the risk of sounding very grim, gross and disgusting, could Mrs Bufger have been perhaps more 'moist' than usual? I've experienced large gushes sometimes (sorry, way TMI) which are a bit like what you described. I hope she's ok - bet you both can't wait for the scan tomorrow. Are you finding out the flavour?
No we're hoping to join team yellow!
Thanks everyone for your kind words and concern. She feels fine at the moment and we've listened in on the baby moving and its heartbeat and all seems fine. If she feels dodgy at all or doesnt feel the baby we'll go back in. Hopefully the scan can put our minds at rest anyway.
have a good evening all.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
My hipg took about 8 days aswell, I think other people were saying about a week to ten days. I reckon the hipg will defo go after the budget and the surestart will probably be for a lesser amount or tighter criteria. All I need to do now is sneeze baby out before August 1st and It'll get the ctf at a better rate and I'll be a happy bunnyBusy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:0
