Paternity leave is a good idea but many places only pay statutory paternity leave which is about £125 a week which is rubbish!! Husband cant afford to work for that for 2 wks so is saving his annual leave and as I am likely to have a c-section it will work well for us as he will take the actual day off then work the few days I am in hospital then take another weeks annual leave then look at who is coming to stay to help me when (hoping my mum will come for a week) then he will work some more leave out.
Managed another 400 words on my essay yesterday not overly successful and not sure how 3,000 words are going to appear before 2wks time but hey things have a way of working out.
Have a freezer full of meat and have taken ages to decide on dinner eventually decided on hot and spicy pork steaks, steamed new potatoes, french beans and carrots.
Got someone coming at 5pm to collect a large bag clothes had a huge clearout over weekend and mostly next stuff I havent worn in last 18mths so it goes and put it on www.netmums.co.uk on the free section as dont like freecycle and have had a few bits myself off netmums.0 -
tig tag I went shopping in my 2 hour wait with DS, they were fine with it, but this time I'm having it done in the bloods place not antenatal and they are insisting I stay. OH said what are you gonna do for 2 hours - I said read a whole book0

Hi tigtag and ethelsmum, why do you need the gtt if you dont mind me asking? Did you not have one at 16 weeks as well? I have one booked for 16 weeks but if its negative then I have to go for one at 28 weeks as well. I've had gestational diabetes twice before so fully expect the same this time.
I'm rubbish at lurking!
hi MERFE - I need one because my dad has diabetes - I think they only test at 16 weeks if you have a history yourself - as you do.
I havent had the test before as when I was pg with DD1&2 my dad didnt have diabetes!!
Hope thats as clear as mud :rotfl::rotfl:

My BMI is over 30 so I think thats why they are sending me for it - never had it in my previous 2 pregnancies as my BMI was lower. No mention of it at 16 weeks.
I work at the hospital where I am having my test and asked if I would be able to go back to my office after and come back 2 hrs later - was told in no uncertain terms NO! Receptionist told me to take a book and I would have to "sit quietly" in the waiting room for 2 hrs - can't wait for that0 -

IIRC the form said something about not using up too much energy or the test would be a default - I have no clue whats right or wrong to be honest but I just dont understand why people just dont do what it says on the tin IYSWIM - lol:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! maybe they have changed it, DS is 4 years old now hehe. Also the fact they can do it at the local hospital in the blood place now is better. Sorry for being noisy just wondered because the midwife didnt even know about the 16 week test, I had to tell her, I only knew because of when I booked in in Oct.
With my first my bmi wasnt over 30 and I have no family history so it was a bit of a shock and I didnt need a GTT because the blood sugars were so high they just stuck me straight on the insulin. Not looking forward to that again.0 -
Wow 2 hour wait?! That's a long time! I am sure I would fall asleep!
OH is on the playstation playing COD I am so bored! Might read some of my hypnobirth book, anyone else looking into hypnobirth?0 -
Ethelsmum, take a big book! It's soooo boring and the chairs just aren't comfy at all, make sure you wriggle plenty to avoid a numb bum. I had my test at about 26 weeks cos my dad and OH mum and dad all had the type 2 diabetes. Thankfully it was negative cos my head is far too puddled with baby brain at the moment to even think about having to start on insulin/ changing diet as well!

Wow lot going on since I logged off!!
Well bean was behaving and everything was good and also looks like we are on team blue!! DH said he thought he saw a 'package' and asked sonographer who confirmed it!! Can someone update the list I'm scared to get it wrong!!
Re MATB1 form I don't get mine until 28 week appointment and says at work need to submit it 15 weeks before EWC, but have spoke to boss (who is very supportive) and said she will speak to HR and I can submit when I want to start mat leave and then state that I won't get MATB1 until 28 weeks. If they do need it before can always ring up midwife/docs etc. . .
Also DH will not get pat leave as starting a temp contract tomorrow for 8 weeks which hope will turn into a permanent role but won't qualify for pat leave. Hope can take paid or unpaid leave but prob is can't really book it as not sure when baby will come!!Thomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces
