Got on the bus home from having my anti D at the hospital, and the entire bus of elderly people glared at me! I have no idea why, I wasn't doing anything except going home, but the looks I got. Weirdos (although maybe it was the Misfits shirt I was wearing - sorry I don't do cute floral maternity smocks)

Maybe they saw you as a seat stealing threat! You know old people have nothing better to do that curtain twitch and moan.

Woohoo, just checked my online bank and my HiPG has gone in. That was really quick, I only sent the form off last Friday. And I've booked myself in for one of those free pamper/ information sessions that they do at the Sure Start. Don't know what it'll be like, but it's got a bit about baby massage, which I'm interested in (plus it's free, so we're not losing out if it's carp) Right, best drag my bum into action, got soooo much to do. Why the heck is it that my days off are always actually busier than my working ones?

    Morning Girlies and Bufger

I have a slight problem, and I hope I don't come across as sounding ungrateful.

My MIL is quite a bit older than my own mum, and doesn't have much money, but I think she feels she must give us things for the baby. Well last time we visited she had fished out cot sheets which were 45 years old and my hubby's and siblings old baby clothes (which are SO dated and had been stored in carry bags, not good condition at all). I have accepted the yellowing sheets and clothes and did all the aw aren't they lovely etc.

Well last night my hubby said she had fished out their old moses basket, this I am sorry I can not use, I planned to buy my own, how can I put this without hurting her feelings, when my hubby has obviously just gone "oh lovely"?

A lesser issue is my dad and step mum, they asked me when I wa 8 weeks pregnant whether I wanted their old cot (I don't know whether she lost a baby, or bought for friend visiting, but my step mum is in her late 50's). At the time I should have said I would think about it or something but baby didn't feel real then so said yes.

I asked my dad what it was like but he has no clue as being stored up North, now I know with a cot you can clean, re-paint, buy new mattress etc so I am not so worried about this as the above mentioned moses basket. However on a safety issue will the spaces in an old cot be too wide? Anyone any idea how wide spaces should be?

They also bought a bouncy seat from a lady, as the charity shop she was trying to give it to refused it?? They are also getting a sack full of clothes from some random person.

Don't get me wrong our baby will have a lot of borrowed, given items from friends with children and I will probably do some charity shop looking myself, BUT I am falling over items we don't want or need and I am only 18 weeks preggers.

If this comes across as me being a cow I blame the hormones.

Has anyone else had this kind of issue?

    Thanks

    Clare xx

My mate has just bought me a Haynes baby manual for blokes taking a practical approach. Its so funny! For those of you who dont know, Haynes make manuals for cars so you can fix them, its basically a hardback with illustrations on how to perform each of the tasks. The contents page reads:

    Ignition (conceiving)
On-board diagnosis (monitoring and complications of pregnancy)
Pre delivery inspection (preparing for B-Day)
    Running In (child development)
Impact protection systems (safety on the move and at home)
    routine maintenance (childhood ailments)
    fault finding
    service history
    dimensions and weights

hahaha. This book is quality, what a great mate!
