Ooh waterbirths....I want one of those :) I'm planning to hire my own pool for the hospital as I don't want to risk the only one there being in use. I'm pretty sure this can be done...but need to check (another question for midwife on wednesday). I'm glad to see those of you that have had it think it's a great pain reliever. When I tell people they think I'm mad and can't see how it would help. I think my friend thinks I'm nuts and can't see why I wouldn't want pethadine etc... But you can have gas and air in the pool can't you?

Nephthys - I'm on my countdown too...only 18 weeks and 5 days to go!

I've just spoken to HR again, I can take my full 52 weeks leave and then take my 33 days holiday (25 + 8 BH) afterwards, so if I start my leave on Jan 7th, I won't be back in work (if I come back) until February 22nd 2012! Woop!
How does this work? Is that the holiday earnt from the year on Mat Leave?

freebie - that sounds good, sounds like you have loads of clothes! I noticed last night that the Tesco newborn white sleepsuits, depite saying they go up to 11lb are much smaller than the Sainsburys ones which say 9.9lb!! I hven't got much in 3-6 months at all but think i'll wait til bubs is here, so far just have 6 sleepsuits and 5 short sleeved vests in that age.

Giz - we were told that the only pain relief you can have in the water is gas and air. if you want anything else then you have to get out of the water. and trust me those 18 weeks will fly and you'll wonder where the time went! I can't believe that in 7 weeks (9 if baby is late like its father always is) I'll be wholly repsonsible for another human being.

ok - just scared myself silly there for a minute!

the only thing that put me off waterbirth was my mum saying that they are really bad for infection control...I will ask her to give more info!

Neph - you and I must be almost the same EDD?!

Rach/Freebie - I have been very restrained in clothes, mostly cos I think people will buy us those rather than anything else (and cos my mum keeps teeling me off when i buy stuff!). I only have about 6 vests and sleepsuits in newborn and 0-3. Have bibs, muslins, socks etc but not much else! We're waiting to see if we will be bought clothes and if not then we'll get some more.

Freebie - that's briliant on the shopping. I suspect my DH would like it if I could manage to do that. Saving up our tesco vouchers at the mo to cover the RAC renewal next year.

Gizmo yes you can have gas and air in the pool no problem they dont allow pethadine as it can make you sleepy which wouldnt be safe in the water at all.

I'm am really looking forward to using my pool never got chance last time i'm getting in it regardless even if i have to get in and out of it again straight away lol.

Yep - as I'll be off from 7th Jan I won't use any of my 2011 holiday and will be on Mat Leave for all the bank holidays bar the one for New Years Day.

Just looking at nursery furniture from Ikea, does anyone have any thoughts about these:

Changing table (converts to a normal chest of drawers):

I like that they're quite grown up looking meaning that we can use them past infancy.

I also like this for a toy box but not sure if we'll have the room:

Rach - we're due 5th oct, think you're the 2nd aren't you? just read back through some posts and noticed you were in a bit of pain today - I hope you're ok! i totally sympathise. I've started doing the all fours thing just to ease the pain a wee bit. not sure i would try it in work tho - simply cos I'm finding it hard to get up off the floor again, lol!

I dont know about the hospital pools but the ones you have at home have full liners with them so the pool itself never comes into contact with any of the birth guk.
