    WOW! Love the tree idea!

    Our little touches are:

Tables named after Plymouth Argyle players (massive fans)
Little pots of retro sweets (hubby is a sweety nut)
Massive country style cheese board in evening (we live in devon)

But my favourite bit is we are having a photo taken with everyone there in team photo stylee.

Me and the groom in the middle with groomsmen and bridesmaids by us. Then the rest of the family and friends :) Should be about 60 people in it!

I LOVE the ice cream van idea! Candy floss sounds good too, but just watch if its a wee bit windy and outside - candy floss has a tendency to fly everwhere (although getting some stuck in your hair gives you a sneaky snack for later!:rotfl:)

Candy Floss Cart £299 for unlimited servings upto 4 hours in duration.

Tempting..... need to compare with an ice cream van tho...

I wish I was artistic Ive heard so many things about people drawing things on canvas and then having people sign it on the day.

We too were determined to be origional, particularly as we'd been to SO many weddings the last couple of years (seems we're just that age i guess).

Our ideas, for your info, were:
Grooms brother playing us down the aisle (here comes the sun on accoustic guitar).
A pub quiz on the tables that the best men collected after the meal and answers and winner announced during speeches.
Open speeches up to the floor (but make sure everyone keeps it short)
We had beetles theme as we love the band (but only table names and ceremony music, as I had my heart set on purple butterflies for the main theme).
Order of service alternative on ceremony chairs (i.e. a who's who of the bridal party including a paragraph about each person, or "which tree do you fall from" which is a wiccan version of astrology where people work out there "birth tree" and read info about what personality traits this is supposed to give them).
Table entertainment (we though of "cootie catchers", betting games such as "best mans speech will last X minutes")
Fact place settings (i.e. "the person to you right is *interesting fact here*"

I had hundred and hundreds of ideas, but I'm not sure if that's the sort of thing you're after, so i'll leave it there for now.

On our wedding day a huge number of people said to us afterwards that they loved how personal it was. We just made sure that every decision we made reflected us and our relationship. Plus we involved family however we could, with his brother playing us down aisle, my mum made cake, aunty made flowers, my brother "announced" us etc etc.

hope that helps, if you want of that sort of an idea (i.e. free but alot of planning!), let me know and I'll keep on posting! :):)

I don't know about anyone else but I'd certainly like to hear more of this! It's inspired!

    Aww thanks,

I also made wine glass charms for every place setting
another aunt did handmade gingerbread heart favours that had purple butterflies made out of sugar paste on them
Hand made signs that say "Thank you" in huge letters are great for photographs, and make a perfect thankyou card image
Time lines - a guest book alternative, have a timeline and flags on pins with every guests name on, and then pin it in the year they first met you. Can just be a decorated pinboard with years printed randomly rather than a long line.
Treasure hunt lists to keep kids entertained with things like "lady in a big red hat" and they need to get signature of the person
Wishing stones (each guest takes a stone - usually placed near the table plan - and makes a wish, then pops it in a decorative vase which the couple keep forever).
A menu card on each place setting (everyone in our wedding had the same, but we still did this so they knew what to expect)
A card on each place setting with a link to a photo website for uploading picture taken on the day for all those with digi cameras (we setup a photobucket account, and included the username and passwords - was a god send, particularly as our professional photos were disappointing, and facebook shrinks the pictures too much to get a decent print).

The Knot and the Martha Stewart Wedding websites were both godsends when I was looking for ideas (though the knot website is a bit of a pain to get your head around navigation to start off with).

how about some chinese sky lanterns at the end of night (you can pick them up on ebay quite cheaply, and wouldn't need to provide one for every guest - maybe bridal party only)?
you could ask guests to write their favourite song on the back of their rsvp and make sure all suggestions get played.
'open mic' speeches - where anyone can take a shot (but this could get out of hand and could last too long so you might want to nominate someone to act as compere)!
instead of confetti you could hand out small bottles of bubbles outside the church - you can get these at party shops or ebay - would look cool in the photos too!
a wishing well is another idea which is featured on alot of wedding websites i.e. hitched
    good luck!

Im having a bubble machine or two for the first dance, nothing expensive, one of those fisher price kids ones. Have to be careful though as bubble soap can cause damage to some kinds of material.

My favours are going to be seeded paper that guests can take home and plant. They'll also double up as table place cards. Making them myself with a paper making kit bought off ebay for a couple of quid as ready made seedpaper shapes are too dear.

Not sure what else to do as we have another family wedding this year and i dont want to book anything and then find out they are doing the same. Its making alot of things awkward at the moment and i dont want to do anything to aggrevate an already tense situation.

Really love the idea of a sweety table and photobooth session in the evening.

Also, thinking of having an evening "wedding cake" but made up of 3 cheese wheels. Was going to put on cheese and crackers anyway on the buffet so seems like the perfect wedding thing!
