Something a little different without breaking the bank??

Options
Ok Ladies, (and Gents)

I'm getting myself stuck in a rut. We have the Church and reception venue booked and I am happy with them. We decided together that we wanted a traditional structure to the day, and I am still happy with this BUT I want to have some little extra's or suprises throughout the day which make it our day.

So we're having a church service at 1pm followed by wedding breakfast at our venue for 100 then an evening reception with buffett and DJ for evening guests of 200. I am happy with over all structure of the day and do not want to change that as we want a traditional day, but we want to make it as unique as we can within those boundaries.... does that even make sense??

We've come up with a few ideas which would be nice little extra's along the way but so far nothing blows me away and of course there's the cost, it needs to be very MSE.

Maybe I'm missing the obvious but my mind has just drawn blank now!

Anything you can suggest which is a little quirky, different, weird, wonderful would be great.

Thanks in advance!!

We're doing something very similar to you but on a smaller scale (40 day 80 evening) and money is quite tight so we're having a sweetie table. It's basically a table full of jars and bowls of sweets with little pick and mix bags for people to take home or munch on throughout the evening. Very cheap and a nice talking point.

Get some cheap disposable cameras and put them on the tables so that folks can snap away..you can get some funny pics doing that.

The girls/guys have been talking about photo booths, or the cheap option (which I like) of polaroid cameras etc and props. Gives the guests entertainment and a nice little thing for them to remember. And you get a load of fun silly pics from the day : )

Thanks ladies, I'm probably getting wound up over nothing BUT it is getting me down!!

Ok, so here's things we have thought about so far,
    • having a brass band play outside the church during the photos
    • having a friend with an amazing voice perform a solo whilst the register is being signed
    • having an ice cream van attend the reception before the sit down meal whilst photos are being taken
    • having a bouncy castle/bungee run etc but am not able to do this as the grounds at the reception outside are on a slope
We are both bigs fans of live music, stand up comedy and sport

I'm just really scared that its going to be no different to 100's of other weddings and I want a WOW factor for people to remember without bankrupting us in the process. How on earth do you do traditional with either lots of little suprises or one big WOW factor MSE style?!?

    Thanks for your time ladies!

I LOVE that idea, I have a right sweet tooth myself (and the fillings to prove it) so that'd be right up my street.

kr15snw is right - add a personal touch.
Here's some ideas I'm having myself:
I might give small wooden welsh love spoons to my guests as favours (I'm a Welshie myself)
I really LOVE proper scrumpy cider, so I'm thinking of getting a couple of barrels of the stuff for the reception.
We got engaged in Australia, so I might add some sort of Aussie theme in somewhere.
My fiance & I also love clubbing, so we're gonna get a mate to DJ for us and have a personalised set (rather than standard wedding music).

Also, I've read on here about people making their own wedding stationary, which is again personal.

We're having a particular transport that is special to our town to take guests from the wedding to the reception and we've got a fab band booked to play in the evening.

Love the brass band, soloist and ice-cream van ideas! Why not see if any good local bands can do a couple of sets for you? Ours are pretty reasonable. Or do you have room for a games area with things like Twister, Jenga, Snakes & Ladders?
  • what about a fun quiz? with prize for winning team
that would be light hearted entertainment and a talking point im sure
  • You could do a Mr and Mrs show??
