Hi peeps,
As the title says really, went to an alterations lady today (after being let down by 3 others) and the dress just would not fit around my hips.
It has always been tight, but with my corset a couple of months ago it was fine. Now it wont do up. I have been exercising my little heart out and felt great. Now have hit reality at such force I am distraught. The woman is calling her friend a dress maker tomorrow when she is back off holiday and said maybe make a new one as a last resort. Does anyone know if this is possible with weeks to go?
I just want to curl up in a ball and stay there, I am really feeling the strain. Sorry to post a depressing thread, my worst nightmare has come true

What exercise have you been doing? Get yourself a swiss ball and dvd, I went down a dress size with using the ball last summer and it is quite intense so your shape starts to change within a few weeks - the one I have the workout is only half an hour. Also I am not sure how much you weigh or whether you want to lose any weight but in 6 weeks on weightwatchers I lost nearly a stone at 2/3 lbs a week. Sorry I've nothing more constructive to add, if you want the blurb on how many points you need to eat you can PM me for those and you can look on the weightwatchers forums for advice on what to eat.
Apologies if you have nothing to lose or do not need this option I just thought I would offer some help. You have 6 weeks so it is possible you can lose a few pounds which might help. Hope you did not think I was being rude by suggesting this.
Also, what about a corset, basque or body shaper?0 -
Could you ring around local bridal shops and see if any have sample sales or sale rails where you buy what's in-store at the moment?0
-
Oh no!
What a horror! Is it an error by the dressmaker? Or as PP a few extra pounds that crept in un-noticed (I have that regularly!)? If it's a weight thing, can you have one of those body wrap things that mean you loose X amount of inches? And maybe a body stocking jobber like
http://www.themagicknickershop.co.uk/site/1642934/page/1991437/site?gclid=CPCWv53qg6ECFclr4wodIj07_w ?
It WILL be sorted, this is the biggest day of your life, it WILL not be ruined!:D0 -
Okay we can sort this, somehow! Firstly do you want to get a replacement dress? If so what type of dress is it and what size do you need? If its a case of getting the lady to alter it, then on most dresses there will be the margin to let it out a bit. If its a case of losing a few inches then we can motivate you to do that too x:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

Oh no big hugs!!!
Have you tried those undies that suck everything in?
I second what the other lady said about samples for sale.
If you still want to lose weight, (before i get jumped on, i know its not healthy, but this is an emergency) you can try the cabbage soup diet??

Oh no, don't inflict that on anyone, LOL, my hubby and I tried that and we lasted a whopping 3 days. It was vile. I'd suggest a diet of cornflakes for a week instead, sprinkled with different fruits and using brown sugar as it has less calories than white, refined sugar.
Have to say I have one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RIO-SLIMMING-BELT-new_W0QQitemZ270561936189QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Health_Beauty_Dieting_Slimming_ET?hash=item3efebf833d but I've never used it as you either have to stand up or lay down while you are wearing it for an hour and I do not have an hour to waste (suppose I could wear it while doing the ironing). If you live near me you are welcome to borrow mine to see if it works and put it round your hips rather than you waist.0 -
Firstly, thank you all for your amazingly inspirational replies. I will try and answer all the questions. I am embarrassed as hell, please do not flame me, but I am overweight by alot.
My exercise has been on the Wii - EA Sports Active. Which involves everything. Cardio, squats, stomach exercises, upper and lower body. It is the best thing I have ever done, and my blood pressure (although higher end, still within normal category) has gone down the last two times I have had my injection (depot). Which made me adament I was doing so well!
I think my injection which I had recently has put some weight on, as I have cut my portion sizes and everything.
I wont find a dress on Ebay that fits, I am a size 26 IRL, but 30 in wedding terms is slightly too small.
Slimming World has worked for me in the past and OH met me for lunch today after the crisis and we are going back on it, I can lose a stone in 2 weeks if I put my soul into it.
What really REALLY peeves me off is when I got measured the alterations lady told me to take a couple of inches off if ?I want to use it to pull me in. I shouldnt have listened, as here and now it is ruined. If anyone reads this, PLEASE PLEASE over estimate your size as it can always be taken in and save all these tears.
I think someone mentioned about underwear, I have a corset which does the most amazing job ever. As for pull me in pants, that seems to bring my tummy u (great for summer dresses) but it doesnt slim my hips (have some for honeymoon)
THANKS SO MUCH GUYS, i feel bad not being around lately, weddings are just so stressful!!!

Haha i havent tried it personally, but my friend did and lost half a stone in a week! eeeeek! I did say its only because it's an emergency.
OP, would you like us to try and find you a new dress on ebay or preloved or similar??
Edit: Sorry, our posts crossed. If we find you a size 32 wedding dress would that fit do you think? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
Hello
My heart goes out to you, however there are diets around that you can do in the short term which WILL shift the weight.
I'm doing the exante one and have been an inspiration to all of my family who are also now doing it.
My sister who is smaller than you lost 15lbs in her 1st week and within the month as lost 2 stone so you will def lose the weight - its not easy but it really does work, i promise
Hope you find your solution0 -
Hire a treadmill too and use it!!! All the time you are in the house doing nothing, walk, watching TV? Walk!! Reading a book? Walk? Listening to music?.well you get the idea. You can do this. I have been watching The Biggest Loser for inspiration on losing weight, and these people train four hours or more a day, but it's intense excercise, and were losing up to eight pounds a week! Now I'm not suggesting that will happen, but you need to move as much and as frequently as possible, and walking is as good as anything. Obviously if you have enough time you can simply walk outdoors, but if not a treadmill that you can use safely indoors at all hours is a good bet. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0
