Each time a new version of a program is released, it does more than the previous version did - You are not now using exactly the same programs as you were previously!
You have admitted that none of these security programs ever find anything of significance, so why do you bother with them?
I assumed the protection I had, had already dealt with them!
I run AVG twice a week because I was under the impression, (and Spybot and/or A-squared suggest weekly), that these progs should be run weekly, I had AVG daily but took it down to twice weekly As I though it was to much on daily basis.
As far as I know, (and I am sure you will correct me), the only one running in the background is WD, with AVG on auto twice weekly.
AVG is running it's resident shield in the background all of the time not just twice weekly!
OK, so I can stop the twice weekly? Up until recently I had 8.5, was that the same?as I ran that daily.
Why,( if as you suggest the reason my computer is running slowly is the conflicting security programmes), has it only recently just started running slowly when all those programmes have been installed for ages and have had no detrimental effect?
So stick with your three legged camel then! You know best don't you?
Still can't/won't answer this one!

That sounds like it may work? But it is outside my comfort zone as I would probably lose a lot of what I have on the computer.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

Still can't/won't answer what exactly? You are the thicky who doesn't understand what has been said and won't listen to reason.
That is why I said "stick with your three legged camel then" and sleep sound knowing that you have plenty of useless security in place and a nice slow machine!

although put in a less than diplomatic way espresso has point with the current situation
from reading the old thread and reading this one it appears you only have a few possibilities left (although i am sure someone else might be able to suggest others) but it boils down to this
un-install all your security programs and start again with just one virus scanner and a maximum 2 anit spyware/malware programs and see if that helps
try another browser that doesnt have as many plug ins just incase it is firefox being bloated after having so much installed on it
buy more RAM
burn off all important data then format and reinstall windows
install Ubuntu (or other linux distro) as a duel boot so you still have access to all your files in your windows partition but use Ubuntu day to day
or burn off all your important files and format and install UbuntuDrop a brand challenge

The thicky seems to be you who can't see what I am asking, I will try and put it simple for you.
Please answer the following, which you seem to be avoiding.
Why has the computer just started going slow when those programmes have been installed for a minimum of 2 years, (more like 4)?
Even over the last few weeks when this problem started, sometimes for days on end the computer runs very quick. Then goes slow for a few hours, (not responding and slow to load and write text), I just cannot see how it can relate to security programmes under those circumstances!
You may be a wiz with computers, (but probably useless at everything else), most people are not computer savvy, and come on sites like this for assistance, sometimes it is easy to pick up, other times it isn't. Read the Qs above then you will see,(?) , where I am coming from.
No one forces you to assist, you do that off your own bat, and lots,(including me), are grateful, but just because not everyone agrees with you or can do what you are suggesting does not give you the right to start with the personal insultsDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

I have already answered that previously! In this recent post here, it shows A-squared running along with AVG 8 running and defender!
Do you understand what these programs do or do you simply install them all because you see good things said about them. You subsequently updated to AVG 9, so you have not been running that for the last four years have you?
You have too much so called security that you admit never finds anything anyway, why?
Remove it and see how it performs or suffer a slow machine! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

You have not answered the question! If as you say it is running slow, then why was it not running slow for the last 4 years with those progs on,(Ok AVG was 8.5 and is now 9, but it did run intermittently slow whilst AVG 8.5 was on).
It "usually" runs OK, but recently is getting worse. Sorry to have to repeat but PROGS HAVE BEEN ON FOR 4 YEARS AND COMPUTER RAN FAST!
That link relates to a log, it means nothing to me hence why I was asked to post it.
As far as I was aware those progs only operated manually, if you say they where running, then.( again), why was the computer running fast? And why is it running fast at this moment in time?
The problem is NOT continuous, so how can it be those progs?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

ha this is getting quiet stressed,
Derrick - although you state that things have been running fine for 4 years, you need to take into account that computers and operating systems are sensitive things, very few programs on your computer will be the same as they where 4 years ago as they all have patches and updates and improvements, this also includes windows updates
any update can cause conflicts with other programs and finding out which one it is, is very hard
the reason your security is being targetted as a potential cause is becuase it is well documented that the more security you have the more likely they are to conflict since they are trying to do the same thing, sometimes at the same time.
just think about motorways the more cars there are trying to go to the same place at the same time the more likely there is to be a traffic jam, same with security programs, you really should only have 1 anti virus and a maximum of 2 on demand only scanners (such as malwarebytes)
you should also take note that AVG is not that great any longer, and has been superceeded by Avast, Antivir and microsoft security essentials as the best free anti virus programsDrop a brand challenge
