I have been looking all over for a superking size bed and have seen quite a few ranging from £600 - £900. Whilst in a shop today I tried out a sealy cumbrian meadow and was 'assured' by the salesman it was one of the best etc. It did seem very comfortable and in their current sale it was knocked down to £750. Is this the bargain it seems? I've previously made the mistake of going for cheaper ones which have been rubbish for us larger folk!

Tim, can you please tell me what the key differences between the Madrid and Venice La Romantica are?

Thanks

Did you know that Sealy are part of the Silentnight group? If I were you I would do a search on these forums for them before you even consider them.

The only difference is the springs, and the fact that one is medium, and the other is medium to firm.

Are you in the bed industry then????

The springs are delivered to the factory rolled up (not vacuum packed). However once they have been decompressed, then they can't be recompressed and rolled up again, as this would force the springs to interlock with each other, and cause damage. The whole point of pocket springs is that they are kept apart by the fabric pockets. The only springs that can be vacuum packed and re-rolled are much smaller springs, and not full size ones.

I just pasted what each email said from yanis, its not from me. I'm doing this so i can get your advice. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I have sent these comments too. not trying to annoy anyone just trying to get the best i can and not be taken in by any sales patter. So much easier in my field, I work in IT i deal with full specifications and can make my own mind up by that.

Seems to me there is a distinct lack of two sided mattresses, why is there only one manufacturer making them if it is so important an issue? La Romantica are cornering the market, which is great for those that make and sell them not so much for the consumer, unless there are others too which are not mentioned and thereby make it harder for the consumer to decide. It is hard to know what to believe, I have been to lots of bedding centres and cannot find one to actually lay on and try out.

We need a list of all manufacturers that make them then we can judge unbiased for ourselves which is better.

We use full size springs for the 1000 count models and two layers or mini springs for the 2000 count models, the mattresses are encapsulated with foam around all edges for extra edge support.
Have been selling these mattresses for years and never had any return, any damage.

Encapsulated with reflex foam around the edges, reflex foam at the bottom and 5cm natural latex on top.

Sorry, it appeared to be coming from you.

The problem is that I'm giving you facts because I'm not trying to get a sale, but Yanis are giving you sales patter. You will probably find that whatever you say they will argue and say that their product is the best.

When you say "Seems to me there is a distinct lack of two sided mattresses", I presume you are just talking about those with memory foam or latex foam?

Well there are other manufacturers who make them, but not many. And whatever excuse some manufacturers come up with for not making them, the truth is quite simple. The memory foam or latex foam is the most expensive part of the mattress. So manufacturers just put it on one side to keep production costs down. They then tell us that is is for our convenience.......which is complete rubbish.

Why do you think that with most mattresses we are instructed to turn them both over and head to toe on a regular basis? But then when the same manufacturers make a non turn mattress they say "it's a non turn mattress for your convenience", but they still tell us to turn it head to toe. The truth is that they do nothing to protect the springs in a non turn mattress in order to make them last longer if we don't turn them. So the fact is that the springs won't last as long in a mattress that isn't turned.

I'm not going to list makes or models on here, as I'm not allowed to. If I did then it could appear to be an endorsement of that make, and if I missed any out it I could get complaints the other way.

So they are reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs then!!!!!!

That's all I'm going to say if you are going to keep passing my posts on.

Yes it would appear so, which is why I was trying to break them down by email not phone. I wasn't passing them on I was rephrasing it as a question for the seller. You say there are other brands but as far i can tell you only sell the one brand of two sided latex/memory foam. So you only trust that one brand?

There really should just be a site that lists them all by brand, would make life so much easier. To avoid all this stuff about pocket springs i am really tempted to just go for 100% latex.

I noticed this when I first looked on here but wasn't sure how bad they actually were (I just randomly picked pages to look at over the 100's!!). Perhaps you could help with what we should look for as we saw one in a local shop for £700 but can't remember anything other than its 2000 pocket springs and zip and link (as at first we thought my other half would be prefer softer and me firmer) but after lots of differing opinions we no longer know whats best!! We are both large (and heavy) and he is 6'6''. Both have back problems and I have problems with my hip.
