http://www.yanismattresses.co.uk/pocket-1000-latex.html seems a very good quality mattress and a great price, i know its not dual sided but that's the only thing its not got.
Being non turn is a big issue as far as the life of the mattress goes. A mattress that can be turned will wear more evenly, and will last far longer.
It says on the Yanis site that the mattress comes compressed and vacuum packed. This can only usually be done with much smaller reflex foam encapsulated pocket springs, that don't give as good support as full size springs.0 -
Hi all,
Does anybody know of any double pocket sprung with memory/latex foam mattresses that requires turning for less than £400?
I like the La Romantica Venice, but it is over my budget.
I know there is also the Madrid, but I don't really know too much about it.
Perhaps Tim could advise on the key differences between the two mattresses?0 -
i have sent your comments regarding the vacuum packing over to ask if that is correct about the springs. waiting for a response, thanks again Tim.0

You won't get a good quality 2 sided pocket sprung and memory foam/latex foam mattress for less than £400. You would be better off going for pocket sprung only.for your budget.0 -

Our pocket sprung mattresses come vacuum packed but this does not affect the quality or the product in any way. We use full size heat treated springs and they give the same degree of support as any other conventional mattress.

Well they would say that wouldn't they?
Full size springs can't be vacuum packed and compressed, as it will damage them.0 -
Thirty years ago we had a slatted bed custom made. We were advised not to use a sprung mattress on it as they were not suitable for slats. Twenty years later we replaced our dunlopillo mattress and made the mistake of buying sprung - it was not a success and went lumpy quite quickly.0

That's right, it's pocket sprung mattresses that aren't suitable for slatted beds with gaps of over 1" between the slats. However if the mattress is 2 sided pocket sprung with memory foam or latex foam, then the foam on the bottom will spread the weight out over the slats. So you can use them with gaps between the slats of up to 3".
You can get around the problem by laying a sheet of pegboard or hardboard over the slats to spread the weight out.0 -

All the pocket spring manufacturers supply the actual pocket sprung units to the mattress manufacturers compressed and vacuum packed in big rolls.Do you think they would do this if the springs could get damaged?
Whoever told you pocket springs cannot be compressed an vacuum packed has not got a clue about mattress manufacturing.

Are you in the bed industry then????
The springs are delivered to the factory rolled up (not vacuum packed). However once they have been decompressed, then they can't be recompressed and rolled up again, as this would force the springs to interlock with each other, and cause damage. The whole point of pocket springs is that they are kept apart by the fabric pockets. The only springs that can be vacuum packed and re-rolled are much smaller springs, and not full size ones.0
