You could always make blackberry vinegar (like raspberry vinegar but uses balckberrys) delicious with pancakes, sweet yorkshire puddings, salad dressings or lovely when you have a sore throat to have a teaspoon of.
think it is just vinegar blackberries and sugar but will ask my great aunt who usually makes me some.0 -
Thanks Pink, sorry hadn't seen your thread.
Just making blackberry jam using Nigella's recipe:
1kg berries, 1kg sugar, juice of 1 lemon.
I don't have any "jam sugar" - I wonder how disastrous this is going to be."Those who understand compound interest are destined to collect it. Those who don't are doomed to pay it."0 -
How far north are people picking? I'm in Cheshire and went out the other evening to a favourite spot and they weren't ready?
Plus was really disappointed since it looks like the farmer / council have trimmed the bramble right back pretty recently. They've been so good from there the last couple of years!
Plus I have a small damson tree in the garden but the fruit is still rock hard - but they're splitting. Do they ripen after picking? Have I left it too late?

I havent had time to go picking the past 2 weeks,
I hope there are plenty of blackberries left
I think People usually start in september (i hope).
I made 2 lovely apple and blackberry crumbles with my last lot,
and some jam ( which is a little runny).
Every time we go blackberry picking my skin gets stained which has got me thinking,
would it work as a hair dye ? :rotfl:0 -
We had a nother look about last night - tried a different spot, but no joy
Just can't wait.......0 -
Mine have been ripening over the past 3 weeks (Yorkshire) and I've been picking as they ripen. They're still going strong.
You need to get them picked before Michaelmas Day because that's when the Devil spits on them and they go sour
That pretty much stands up, they do sour at the end of September. Michaelmas Dya is 29 Sept, or Oct 10/11, depending on your viewpoint
Oh! And the Devil spits on them becuase he landed on brambles when he was thrown out of Heaven. Another bit of useless info for you :rotfl:0 -
