hi.. i trimmed someone's dog today..... used to be a dog beautician for 20 years until my wrists packed up....so as it was a sealyham terrier...and they wanted it striped out....i love this old welsh breed.... as i would not take any money for doing the dog....they gave me a load of veg from the garden.. and a load of blackberries that they had picked....

by the time i got home i could see some maggots on the outside of the blackberries:eek: this is why i never eat them. buy as they were given to me ..plus hubby loves blackberry pie... what do i do to get rid of them...

    thanks....

I believe you can just soak the blackberries and this will drown the maggots ...

  • I remember my nanna laying out the brambles on a dish and sprinkling them with sugar.

Within an hour, any bugs had surfaced and could be removed.

As I make wine with mine I tend to just give them a thorough wash before crushing and just think if I crushed the bugs it just adds to the flavour:rotfl:

Supposed to be full of protein anyway ;)

Picked a kilo of blackberries in the lane near my house yesterday. Cost to buy the same in Tesco's today would have been £6. They taste even better now!

If you live in the North of England the blackberries are ripe now - go today before they are all picked!

A couple of nice recipes here and a good article from the Tuesday programme. I knew blackberries were antioxidant but didn't know they were also good for eyesight and mental health. Have picked 8lb so far this week but the weather has turned nasty now.

are there any links to any blackberry recipes? I have just put loads in the freezer. other than apple and blackberry pie and blackberry smoothie i don't really know what to do with tham.

    Blackberry Smoothie

Whizz loads of Blackberries together with a dollop of ice cream and 1/2 a glass of milk. It goes the most gorgous colour.

I love blackberry tarts and crumbles, I didn't realise they were out yet.
When I got married 3years ago I decided to make my own desserts to be served at the reception,so I spent the week before my wedding picking blackberries and the day before in the kitchen cooking blackberry tarts and crumbles, I also make a mean chocolate cake so we had a bit of choice.
All our friends and family thought it was a fab idea.
