I don't take any food as the food there is so yummy (organic stuff), just some snacks for the tent. But I don't have a stove so I don't cook.
Plan on where you want to camp in advance - near stages will be noisy. Camp near a path/bar and you'll get people tramping all over your tent. There should be a site map on the website.
Take a bottle of water which you can refill continuously.
TBH I've never had a shower there, just wet wipe but do wash my hair.
Long socks for wellingtons, got the most awful chafing on my legs from the tops of wellingtons. Till I learned the trick was to wear long socks or leggings.
Queues for the cashpoints will be huuuuge. So I usually take about £150 and sleep with it (till it's all gone) but as another poster said, you can lock up valuables.
Long drop toilets smell less as they're open air but don't drop anything down it, you won't get it back! I remember reading once how someone fell in one trying to retrieve their phone....
I don't take that many clothes as I've found I barely wear them all. Jumper is a definite must as it gets freezing at night.
Hand sanitiser is a must, I found one which has a loop at the end so I threaded a shoelace through it and wore it round my neck along with my maglite (although a head torch is good for the night time toilet trips.):hello:

DS3 went when he had hair down to his waist, which he used to wash every day. I offered to try to find him some dry shampoo but he was sure he'd be able to wash his hair just fine while he was away. :rotfl:And for the longer haired types (and ladies ofc) you can get a can of dry hair wash stuff, spray it in and comb it through and your hair's not too rank.
He came back with both hair and body completely unwashed. Apologies to all those on the coach with him. :rotfl:shorelines wrote: »TBH I've never had a shower there, just wet wipe but do wash my hair.
 That never crossed my mind, but then he was at an age where I'm not sure which of us would have been more embarrassed at the suggestion!Condoms are always a good idea as well.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Thank you all so much - you've all got such good ideas. I knew this was the place to ask.
They're planning on going on the train even though I've offered to take them (I think it's an adventure for them), but I'm picking them up on the Sunday teatime/evening because they both have a GCSE exam on the Monday morning (me: "do NOT buy a ticket until you've double checked the exam timetable" them: "we have, we have, honest").
We're going to have a look at the websites you've mentioned tonight and write a list, then cross half of it off
I'll just be happy to get him back in one piece, smelly or not :j******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
Anything you don't want stolen, take it with you and keep it on you all the time (even when sleeping!) I usually kept my valuables (cash, phone) in a little bag that went at the bottom of my sleeping bag each night. Don't bother getting a padlock for tent, if anything it'll make it more likely to be targetted because thieves will think there's something worth nicking in there.
Arena toilets will be better kept than the portaloos because they're "proper" porcelain type affairs so if they can hold it in till then....the first couple of days won't be too bad portaloo wise. But towards the end...well. I started investing in Travel John toilet bags (google them), they took up a fair bit of space packing wise but at least I didn't have to venture out to a rank toilet at 3am. They have a crystal type formula which turns to gel when used, then you can seal them up and bin them. And toilet rolls a plenty!!!
Cereal snack bars are good to take, but they'll be plenty of food meal wise to buy. Agree about wet wipes and bin bags (used as ponchos, to sit on, to put laundry in, to wrap around shoes). Just try and pack light, the more you take, the more you have to lug around!Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0 -

Wow, that's quite an adventure for a 16 year old, you must have raised a nice sensible (to your face, anyway!!:rotfl:)young man. I hope my boys give me reason to be so trusting*/brave*/stupid* when they are that age!

BIG WARNING ABOUT GETTING HOME ON THE MONDAY is that even if you/they book seats on a specific train, the staff at the station do not care. You have to queue for hours to get put onto any train, and are not likely to get a seat. I left camp at sunrise on the Monday morning and didn't get on the train til 1pm as I spent 7 hours queueing DESPITE having reserved tickets/seats on specific trains and asking the station staff.
You can get a shuttle bus for £3 each way to Glastonbury town centre where there is a Morrisons and Boots etc if you want a supermarket. I stayed in a hotel there instead of camping.
Onsite you can buy anything and everything but my essentials were: Sun hat, insect repellant, knee socks, sun cream, wet wipes, dry shampoo, hand sanitiser gel, loo roll. I loved the food onsite so just bought all my meals there.0 -

I know! He's never given me reason NOT to be trusting/brave/stupid, so I guess that's good enough. This is a big, big test, and I've made sure he knows that. I can't take all the credit - I honestly think being in beavers/cubs/scouts/explorers has helped out a lot.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
Baby wipes and body spray = festival wash lol!!
Don't be tempted by a single skin cheap 'festival' tent, the condensation is horrendous! Excllent tip re the 30 second tent, fabulous things, no condensation. Decathlons are great if you have one near you!0
