It seems the ASA have had dealings with them http://www.asa.org.uk/Complaints-and-ASA-action/Adjudications/2009/2/The-Great-British-Mobility-Group/TF_ADJ_45749.aspx

Not found much in the way of extortion from them yet.

thanks norant , and they are not in for an easy ride
Thats my pleasure Diggerman, and i hope you give them whatfor.

I guess its a classic example of sales people on a commission only basis, they will go to any lengths to close a deal even by persuading someone who is quite clearly upset and vunerable to sign.

Perhaps you need to calm down a little before speaking to them? Whilst I am sure that your point is valid, you will get a much more positive outcome if your approach is calm and constructive.

Sorry to hear about your problems, diggerman. There are so many of these dosgy companies pressure- selling overpriced goods to the elderly. I am glad he didn't part with any money. You could probably make a formal complaint to Trading Standards.

Diggerman, good luck with your complaint!

I will say that my Dad had one of these chairs and it cost him £450. Dont pay any more than that!
  • I am sorry that your father in law was intimidated in this way Diggerman. I felt I had to post a reply on the formun (never done anything like this before). My father in law has been robbed by Great British Mobility to the tune of £3,800!
He was sold a chair just before Christmas by a local sales rep who said he was giving Dad the chair at a knocked down price because the chair he was offering was 'a cancelled order'. The chair was meant for his wife who was in hospital and desperate to come home but she died 2 days later. The chair had been delivered but we cancelled the order within the 7 day cancellation period. They had already taken payment for the chair but said as soon as they collected the chair his money would be refunded within 28 days. They took the chair away but he is still waiting for his money. We have telephoned a dozen times, written to Great British Mobility and nothing. We have spoken to Trading Standards and have no other recourse now but to take legal action. How can this happen, a 95 year old who lost his wife of 67 years and been ripped off to the tune of £3,800, how can these people sleep at night. If anyone else has had grief from this company please spread the word and warn people off this company, or get in touch with Trading Standards.
PS Their website is unavailable today!
  • my father in law is quite ill and needs a chair that will help him stand up. the salesman offered him a chair for 4 THOUSAND pound and would not leave. luckily my sis in law happened to call in at the time and made him leave as she saw that f i l was upset and confused. how does a chair cost 4 grand and i wonder , what would have happened if sis in law had not intervened.
father in law is quite accepting and will do anything for a quiet life , bless him , he wanted something to make his life better and i dont blame him .
if anyone can justify 4 grand for a chair then i will apologise and withdraw my comments. until then i will say
conning gits or worse cos cant swear on here

Those chairs can be really expensive. But he was totally out of line and outright bullying. I'd complain. There have been stories like this about mattress companies and the enderly.
