Kings Cross London

There's an abundance of hotels in northern Bloomsbury (just south of King's Cross station) which will be fine as well or the Premier Travel Inn on York Way is an alternative.
I'm a Clerkenwell resident and read this thread having just come home from Kings X on the bus tonight, about 5 mins away.
The area is OK - not brilliant, but OK. There's been massive redevelopment at Kings X, and there's a good police presence - but the result of this has been to drive the prostitutes and junkies out of the immediate area into places like Barnsbury (north of York Way) and West along the Euston Road, which is a rather grim area anyway. Anything in the immediate vicinity of the station is absolutely fine and probably safer than northern Bloomsbury, which I think is quite dodgy. If you're not familiar with London, it's best to stay very near the station, or some distance away - avoid its hinterland which is quite seedy. All the B&Bs in this area look really manky!
The Premier Travel Inn at Kings X/York Way is just outside the side entrance of the station and is brand new and looks secure. As one of the other emailers mentioned, there's a Jury's Inn at the top of Pentonville Road, near the Angel station (the next station along) and Islington's Upper St which has tons of nice bars and restaurants, plus 2 cinemas.
Kings X has brilliant travel links, but if you want a nice meal or something to do in the evening, you're either going to have to go South West into central London or North East into Islington. King X is a bit 'pool and kebab' and also quite noisy! Islington is 5 mins away with tons of buses. I've never had any problems after 7 years of living in the area but I wouldn't choose to spend time hanging around Kings X station at night - it's probably London's least salubrious station. However, it's near lots of interesting places - the museums of Bloomsbury, the nightlife of Islington and it's not a bad place to locate yourself as long as you keep your wits about you.0
