Kings Cross London

Ali, Are you not thinking of the Travelinn rather than the Travelodge?
With regard to my earler comment re Jack the Ripper, I arrive into Kings Cross and can't see the point of lugging cases on and off the tube when, within 5 minutes, I will be in the hotel!Filiss0 -
King's Cross is fine if you take the same precautions as you would at home."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0

Not sure if this is too late but I had lived 2 minutes away from Kings Cross all my life until I moved 2 years ago.
I wouldnt be walking about Kings Cross of a night, its bad enough during the day.
Stick to places that are busy and dont look at the druggies and drunks, they could get abusive.
I would have stayed in Jurys Inn at the Angel if I was you, It's a 5 minute bus ride up Pentoville Road or a 10 minute walk and its much nicer (though probably more expensive)0 -
WOW, a lot of opinions here, it still is a concern though. We like Tavelodge hotels because whever in the country they are, you can be sure you have a clean, modern room with a bathroom you wouldn't have any problems with ( I've seen some real shabby bathrooms in so called 3-4* hotals) Its true there are dodgy places anywhere. I live in a quiet middle class residential area but I wouldn't walk the streets alone at night, Anyway, lots to consider, Thanks everyone for your views.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

I agre with ali007.............you might as well stay there as anywhere else.
Its often the case when you ask for peoples opinions they often tell you something you really did not want to hear. I find myself in all sorts of far flung places in England and the world and survive to tell the tale. To add a sparkle to your trip go to https://www.lastminute.com and book yourself two £10 tickets for Grumpy Old Women at the Lyric Theatre...........guaranteed an hillarious night out if booked there are other shows at £10. Whatever you decide.............enjoy.SallyD0 -
Stayed in Premier Travel Inn in York Way at beginning of Summer hols. Me and two kids. Nice and clean, kids breakfast free. We like to stay here as can get all tube lines we want from Kings Cross. Have stayed at Travelodge in Docklands which is cheaper but did this when hubby was with us - would not feel safe going back here on my own at night with the kids. Because Kings X is so busy at night with lots of people and police about it actually feels safer. We dont hang around though! Straight out of tube station, 2 minute walk back to the hotel. Nobody bothered us yet!0

Have none of the other London Travellodges got vacancies for when you want to go? Having worked around Kings Cross for a number of years I would not particularly recommend it to females on their own. To be honest I would think twice before going with OH and neither of us are particularly cowardly.
I think it's interesting that most of the posters who know London well or live there do not recommend staying at Kings Cross whereas the others see no problem. I agree there are dodgy places all over England but Kings Cross is a particularly unpleasant area. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
i wouldnt reccomend kings cross either, even though i have only been there in the daytime briefly,i have seen alot weirdos and people selling or on drugs hanging about.
the last time we were in london we decided to visit the mcdonalds over the road from the train station,on approaching the doors we noticed some woman sitting outside a shop on the steps high on drugs, she picked up a half eaten kebab from the floor and started munching on it,but the worst thing was as she was munching on it she threw up into the kebab wrapper, started laughing then again started munching on the kebab! lol
that put us off our mcdonalds breakfast, and we made our way out of there asap!
on a serious note try the liverpool street travelodge,a few minutes from the station and it seemed a quiet and kinda safe area.
covent garden travelodge was minging, holes in the sheets,no heater, mould in the bathroom, leaking shower etc etc.0 -
Listen, if there is two of you it will be absiolutely fine. There are aspects that arent too wholesome in Kings Cross, and i wouldnt advise you walk around alone, but i wouldnt advise it anywhere in London. The nightlife will be worth the stay.0
