Kings Cross London

Looking to book saver room at Travel lodge, Kings Cross for 2 nights. However have been told that it is not safe for 2 ladies to walk around Kings Cross ( apart from the "ladies" we dont want to encounter) We really dont fancy spending a lot of money and I know from old that many London Hotels are grotty, so we would be comfortable with Travel Lodge. Can anyone enlighten me, is it as bad as I've been told? or should we avoid it.

I would say certainly don't stay in Kings Cross. If you stay in the hotel it should be fine, but you would be much better off jumping on the tube a couple of stops and finding a nice B&B somewhere. Being a Londoner, I am the last person to ask about B&B's in London!

Sorry, don't agree with not staying in Kings Cross, the Travelodge is only five minutes wakf from the station, I think Jack the Ripper is dead these days!

I`ve stayed at the Kings X one and I felt perfectly save letting my daughters (14 & 16) wander around on their own.We are staying at the Covent Garden one next week. They will do their own thing again - don`t want dad around.Until feeding time.
  • Kings Cross is a notorious place for drug-dealing and ladies (and gentlemen) of the night. It is not safe. Jack the Ripper may be dead but there are plenty of others to take his place. The reason hotels are cheap in this area is because of the danger. Pick a different hotel, try travelstay at http://www.travelstay.com/ to find budget rooms or hotels. Remember London is a city that doesn't sleep so you might want to get out into one of the suburban areas rahter than be subjected to the sounds of the night. Transport in London is good (espiecally night transport) so you will be able to get to any place you want.

In all honesty there are other areas that are just as cheap and a bit safer than Kings Cross. Sorry to scare you but there it is find yourself somewhere nice and espiecally quiet.

Agree with colemanbrown, I stay in London regularly on business and would never stay in Kings Cross.

What kind of a budget do you have? If you check on travelstay as advised by colemanbrown, you could always check https://www.tripadvisor.com for independent reviews of the hotels/ b&b's?

I've stayed in this one before:

It's down a quiet street and if all you want is somewhere to sleep and a decent fry up in the morning and you are intending to be out all the time this is exactly what you want. It's very cheap but beware you really do get what you pay for.

Just a quick question - Why would picking a different hotel make their stay any safer? London is London! As long as your alert and careful you should be safe.

You just have to make sure your careful. Don't stay out too late, don't talk to anyone in the street etc etc.

Okay, Kings Cross is a bit dire but it is residential, plenty of folk call it home.Just do not hang around Kings Cross or Euston Station late at night or the MacDonalds on the corner of York Way. The main drag of Kings Cross is very commerical and busy every day but it does sport the British Library if you fancy a bit of coulture. Most people would not wander around stations late at night whatever country you are in.

The Travellodge is a dam site better than a lot of the B & B's around Bayswater and Paddington. Loads of buses run right past the door whioch will take you to Leicester Square,Oxford Street,Covent Garden and the like which are a spit away. Go for it girls, have fun.

The travelodge is fine!!!!!! I agree Kings Cross is not the best of areas but the lodge is v near Euston station - go out and enjoy yourselves, when you get back to Euston go straight to the lodge, stopping off only at O'Neills on the corner, or the pub across the road.....

Seriously, as a single woman I feel safer walking along Euston Rd at night than in many other places.
