Could i possibly play devils advocate for a moment?

I just think at the end of the day its such a magnificent feat of engineering to fly us from one destination to another that delays are really insignificant to the actual magnitude of what it takes to fly.

People seem to think its as easy to co-ordinate as a cab firm, but it really isnt and if cut backs are made peoples lives are at danger. Personally i would wait days to ensure a safe flight (but then i am terrifed of flying hehe)

It always bothers me at airports where people are screming blue murder at the staff for flight delays as they need to get to work, or thier (always sick) mother, and you just think, well why didnt you book a flight the day before?

The other point i would like to raise though.......

Why on earth when easyjet have such intollerably rude and unhelpful staff did they make a program showing them???? i have never flown with easyjet as ive seen the bloomin program!!! :)

If its any consolation I have flown both easyjet and ryan air ... easy jet was luxury compared to ryan air .. and I hate easy jet.

Why did they make the program? Because Stellios knows that any advertising is good advertising

dmg24, you are making nothing up however the key phrase in the article you quote is "limited or excluded", NOT merely excluded. Since the limitations are not explicitely stated it would be up to a judge to decide what they were.

Your quoted article also states a limitation/exemption only applies if the airline could not have avoided the delay even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Exactly what is reasonable is again open to interpretation. Going back to the OP's issue would it not have been reasonable to stick the spare part in a car and drive it from Stansted to Gatwick rather than having the plane divert to pick it up thereby causing further delay? Possibly not but neither I nor you are qualified to make that decision.

I apologise if I ever stated the OP was definitely entitled to x, y and z. Under the regulation they may be entitled to nothing or they may be entitled to refreshments, phone calls etc. Only a judge could decide exactly but there is enough leeway in the regulation to allow all outcomes.

No have you heard that if you try to take a bottle of water on the plan they get the armed police to come and take you away! A seriouse offence having a bottle of water on a ryanair plane!!!!

You what? This is a joke, right? FWIW, I've probably flown with Ryanair something like 40 times by now, and in fact, they're usually my first choice, because most of my flights are under 2 hours, so I don't give a toss if there is no food or drink, I can even manage without a loo for that length of time, and all I care about is getting from A to B in one piece, for the smallest fare possible, and preferably within a reasonable distance of my final destination! I take on a bag containing a bottle of water/juice, a sandwich and some biccies, and have never been told off in any way for it - in fact, the cabin crew will usually collect my litter quite happily. As for the cabin crew, apart from them being clearly harrassed and overworked, I've always found them polite, helpful and pleasant, although admittedly the same isn't always true of the ground staff, who do tend to be jobsworths. Quite honestly, considering I now pay about a tenth of what I used to have to pay 15 years ago, I'm prepared to put up with a lot, and the OP's complaint seems to me to be pretty trivial.

As for the anti-Ryanair sites, so what? People are always quicker to complain than to praise, and considering Ryanair is increasing its business year on year, they must be coming up to most people's expectations, even if those expectations are, like mine, pretty low! The worst I've had to put up since I started flying with Ryanair was one occasion with a 40-minute delay, and believe me, I've had much worse than that flying with BA and several other big airlines for a heck of a lot more money, not to mention charter airlines (although again, with those, my expectations are low).

By all means, try faxing Ryanair Customer Services, but don't expect much, if anything, in reply.

yes it was a joke. It was just because of what james said
"taking your own food/drinks is forbidden. "

I have just read this thread and I think the OP is asking alot.

I have flown with ryanair loads of times and only had slight delays on later in the day flights. the only problem I ever had was before the relaxed carryone baggage and my bag was slightly over 10KG I just removed the 2 bottles of water and that was fine weighed the bag again and replaced the bottles which I drank 1 before getting on the flight so it was under weight anyway.

The non low cost airlines give drinks becasuse they carry enough drinks for everyone on the plane to have a drink 3 or 4 times you usually get water or one of the other drinks but the drinks are limited still Ryan air dont carry that much to keep costs down and make the flight prices lower you need to book earlier if you want the really cheap 1p flights but there will have been people on the flight that will have paid more than the OP.

It could have been worse, last year I went ot LA as we were taxiing to the runway smoke was seen comming from the under carriage and we were sat on taxi ways for 3.5 hours due to the fact we had a full fuel load they wouldnt even let us rerturn to the gate and get off incase of a fire. it turned out to be an hydrolic leak on to the breaks but I was more than happy to have found this out before we need the landing gear at the other end. we ended up missing connecting flights and staying in newark for the night whihc was paid for and we got meal vouchers from the airline. we complained and got vouchers for a few hundred dollars each for flight in the futur witht he airline.
