I think part of the reason my sales to book ratio are low is because I don't go for the lowest price in a lot of the case.

For example 6 books I sold this week are not the lowest priced.

1 book I sold this week was for £75 and the buyer emailed me to say they were buying from me because of my reputation in my feedback.

I don't want to get into price wars, nd haven't got the time to check my prices all the time. I will stick to this formula and carry on enjoying it.

    Matt

I totally agree with your principle of not always being the lowest price, however, over time prices really can change considerably (both up and down though).

I've just had a look at my sales from last week, on 15 I was the lowest priced and on 14 I wasn't. I think detailed descriptions and good feedback do count for something.

I think you have just asked the 'eternal amazon feedback question'. There is no rhyme or reason - as you say - 'go with the flow'.

If you leave a comment you could appear 'petty' and put off other buyers. It's best to 'rise above it' and move on.

Good luck with future sales and lots of good feedback.

    FFM :)

Edited to add - I got this one yesterday - 4 out of 5: "Swift and efficient service. Many thanks!"

Don't feel so letdown now having read your feedback above.
Let's ignore all the buyers and just say thanks for the money.

However, I did encounter finding the books quite difficult, even when I put the exact title in to search I ended up with pages of rubbish with barely similar titles before I found the exact match I wanted. I would have htought that when I had an exact title they would come up first in the search, but obviously not! I still haven't found the last book I want.(The Coming of globalisation by R Langhorne) so if anyone comes across that book it will be worth listing as if it's on a uni book list there will be a lot of potential buyers.

Soo, did you use the Book Search facility - I have started using this and found (particularly when you use the author's name either as well, or on it's own) that it does cut down on all the pages of rubbish you would otherwise get, and you do get a focused search.

When you are in Books, it is on the green horizonal toolbar, on the far left - I only found it lurking there a while ago. There is also one for DVDs, Videos etc (in fact, on the Music tab, you can actually search by barcode, which would be quite useful).

If a buyer contacts you to say a book posted first class has not been received after five days, how long do you ask them to wait to see if it turns up. At my PO ,they said that a recipient should wait about a fortnight. Seems like a long time, especially as Amazon investigate missing orders after 3 days. I just hope the book turns up.
  • I don't seem to have sold any books in ages. The past few months have been really slow with the odd one here or there. I have a fair few academic books.. so I'm hoping for some sales shortly!

I wasn't very well for a week or so, so I put my sales on hold (holiday setting). This week I've gone back in to resell and around 10 of my listed books books just aren't there! They are not in the closed or open listings. Does this happen often and how can I prevent it? Thanks.

I had a book go missing and refunded the buyer, just to keep my reputation sweet, but after two weeks it turned up out of the blue. And it was exactly a fortnight.

The buyer did offer to pay again, but I let him have it with my compliments - it was not an expensive book and I got fabulous feedback!:)

From what I can gather the gremlins have really been at work at Amazon HQ so the books may just turn up again for no reason - did you have a look to see if they were on sale even though that may not look as if they are?

There seems to have been Gremlins around Amazon for the last couple of weeks,I hope they get back to normal soon,I really need all the sales I can get at the mo.
Have had TWO pending today, lets hope it is the glitch that is holding the payment up,I have emailed the buyers to say that may be they need to update there cards on the system, but no joy as yet.

    Whinge Whinge Whinge

    Happy selling to all.
  • Morning all,

Had my first two sales yesterday (one book, one old PS1 game) and am very pleased.

I am now trying to put my old PS1 console onto Amazon but so far when I’ve attempted to submit the listing I’m only getting a postage credit of approx. £2 (sorry, can’t remember the exact figure).

    Postage details on Amazon show:

    Electronics & Photo 4.00 + 0.50 per kg**

** Please note that the delivery rates for Electronics & Photo, Home & Garden and Toys items are related to their boxed-product weight. The weight of any such item can be found on its product information page on the website, rounded up to the nearest 1 kg. Where the weight of an item is not displayed on the product information page, only the basic per-item delivery fee will be charged.

Am I to assume that because the weight is not displayed on the product info page for the PSOne (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00004YWK9/ref=pd_rvi_gw_1/202-5315353-2859863?ie=UTF8) that I can only claim the £4.00 (and even that's not showing as correct)?

    Thanks

PS - Parcelforce website calculates that it’ll cost £14.25 to deliver, so if the above is true then I’ll have to resort to sticking it on Ebay ;).

Well done on the first sales, Llyllyll, you will soon be addicted like all of us!! Looking at the link you posted, it seems like the console falls under PC and Video Games, rather than toys or electronics, so postage of £1.99 quoted (I listed one to sell to see what postage they added) is the one for video games (I guess, I can't see it properly under delivery rates on the website at the moment).
