  • Not wishing to hijack this thread but I have a book to sell and I’m not sure what to ask for it  (I’m new to Amazon marketplace). The usual Internet searches don’t yield much information and there’s only one on Amazon marketplace at the moment which is a 1966 print (mine is 1962).

If anyone can help with a rough valuation or ideas as to where I can get one I’d be most grateful. Details are:

Once Long Ago - Folk And Fairy Tales Of The World

    • Retold by Roger Lancelyn Green

    • Illustrated by Vojtech Kubasta

    • Published By Golden Pleasure books Ltd (1962)

    • Printed In Czechoslovakia By Polygrafia Prague

    • Red hardback cover.

Thanks very much and apologies again...

    So annoyed with Amazon.

Woke up this morning to find my lovely 100% feedback down to 92% because some numpty has posted a feedback of 3 out of 5 and the single comment "OK" without bothering to contact me - at least I know he can't be p***ed off with the delivery time because he only bought it 2 days ago! Have contacted and pointed out I would have refunded without a question (it was less than £2) and told him to keep the book if he wasn't completely happy - no reply!

I pointed out to Amazon in a feedback removal request that this doesn't exactly fall within the buyer's requirement to "leave thoughtful feedback for transaction partners" - the response being basically that, well, in Amazon's opinion it is thoughtful feedback because he thought he wanted to write OK so he wrote OK! - oh, and not to worry because 3 out of 5 isn't negative feedback - try telling that to the buyers who see a 92% where a 100% was!

What is particularly annoying is that I've actually sold over 100 books in the last couple of months, all in better than described condition and posted out on the day of sale to try to build up some decent feedback, and only 12 buyers have bothered to leave feedback for the transaction although lots have emailed me to say thanks, so this single "neutral" hits hard.

I was starting to think this was much better than Ebay, but at least on Ebay buyers value their feedback too, and don't throw poor feedback around so lightly, and neutrals are really neutral - they don't knock your positive feedback score down!

Tempted to buy lots of books from low feedback sellers, give them a 1/5 and then wait to see what sort of refund they offer to have the feedback removed! (well, not really, but very annoyed at the mo!)

I can symapthise with you Stig. I got a 'neutral' quite early on - when I'd only had about 4 or 5 ratings so my percentage was crushed!!! :o

The difference between Amazon and eBay is that buyers are less wary of buying from sellers with lower feedback (presumably because all payments go via Amazon.) The low feedback rating didn't seem to harm my sales at all and my rating slowly crawled back up to about 97% at the minute. (I've had two neutrals to date - both for 'stupid' reasons.) One even said that the item was like new and received quickly but that he'd seen it cheaper elsewhere since so gave me a 3 out of 5!!!

Please don't take your frustrations out on other Marketplace sellers. (I'm sure your comments were made tongue in cheek!) ;)

    Hi Llyllyll

I could only find the other copy that you are referring to and because they are not a PM you cannot tell how long they have been listing it because they would relist every time it expires.

I would suggest you price match for now and make clear that your book is an earlier edition and give it a good accurate description. You could oalso ffer to email photos to any prospective buyer.

An Ebay search of live and completed auctions did not bring up much either, a 2004 Folio hardback of The Adventures of Robin Hood by Roger Lancelyn Green reached £21 (item no 110025357272).

Another possibility is to send the info to someone like Bloomsbury Auctions and see if they will give you a guide price.

Sounds like a lovely book - good luck.

I thought I would add a few observations to this thread, but from a buying point of view as i've been buying up my son's booklist for uni.

Firstly, feedback does matter to some extent, but only when there is a lot of competition. Most of the books I wanted had about 10 copies and I did pay 30p more in one case to buy a very good copy of a book because the second seller had 100% whereas the first, only had 96% but sold a lot and had started to get neutrals and negs for no contact and no help when there were delays.

I also decided against a book at £7.00 brand new where the seller was only on 50+% (half his feedback was a 1 for no book received and no seller assistance) and bought a good copy instead for £8.50.

Apart from that I bought purely on price, the lowest price with the best feedback in the best condition won every time.

However, I did encounter finding the books quite difficult, even when I put the exact title in to search I ended up with pages of rubbish with barely similar titles before I found the exact match I wanted. I would have htought that when I had an exact title they would come up first in the search, but obviously not! I still haven't found the last book I want.(The Coming of globalisation by R Langhorne) so if anyone comes across that book it will be worth listing as if it's on a uni book list there will be a lot of potential buyers.

    Hi Stig

I can sympathise with the above. Although I am still on 100% I think thats making it worse as the more 5s I get without a blip the harder that first less than positive feedback is going to be!

As far as I am aware all my sales have gone without a hitch (previous problem I posted about was resolved when buyer found she had received book!) so the main problem is getting people to leave feedback.

Thanks FFM for answering my earlier questions about how Amazon lets people know about how to give feedback - ie they don't really until reminder mail. I've been adding into my confirmation e-mail I send to say that I've posted the books that I'm new and trying to build up a rating and asking for feedback once they receive the book (not pushing for positive). I'm now up to about 40% of sales giving feedback so maybe this might help you get some more feedback and lessen the impact of that 3.

    Hi Soo

Parrot's books look quite reputable - or is this not the edition you are looking for?

  • I have almost finished listing all the books I have.

I am now up to 5745 seperate listings. There are about 250 books I have more than 1 of. So that should mean I have 6000 for sale at the moment.

    Thank you

I realise that the book list used the UK spelling 'Globalisation' so I searched for that and stupidly didn't check for globalization.

Have now ordered it..so that's the first book list done.
