on bulk buying books, it was very useful and I'll be able to search now on ebay. Just wanting to look at the moment as too busy with work [6 days a week] to cope with much more. Once I get some of my debt paid off though I'd like to give up one job and sell books or at least give it a serious go.....

Soo - am just waiting for my local library to catch on, its quite small and I'm sure they think I'm a mad eclectic reader and wonder what I do with the books I buy. I keep trying to be served by different staff but its too small for that :o

My last whinge didn't work so am trying a BIG RED WHINGE to sell some items please

I received over 500 emails telling me that most of my books need to be relisted! Is there an easy way to do this ? I wasn't expecting it as I have been pro-merchant twice and cancelled it, so this has never happened before..Hope that makes sense. Thanks Cazmeg.
  • Sorry cazmeg, if you don't relist within a couple of weeks (or slightly more) you'll have to write them all out again. Going pro has it's perks!

I've been following this thread with interest.....

I was wondering what sort of returns people are making out of selling on Amazon. I get the impression that the returns are quite low....
  • Hi shopbot, how long is your personal piece of string? it all depends on how much effort you want to put in.

If you just want to sell your own books, DVDs etc then it's all profit, if you decide to take it further and buy in to trade on then how much profit you make depends on how much you pay for your books in the first place and how many sought after books are amongst the ones you buy. Clearly the more books you have for sale then the more you'll sell and if you've bought well then the profit will be worth your bother.
I have around 900 books for sale and sell around 3 or 4 per day, some make me 50p each, some £10 each or more sometimes - so it's hard to give a true reliable figure.

The real Amazon pros seek out sought after books and put effort into finding books that they know a buyer is waiting for so they are assured of a sale.

Amazon isn't limited to just books and DVDs, they sell household electricals, toys computer games etc in the Marketplace so you can pick your niche

    EDIT ----

I just did a bit of a snapshot of todays sales,

I sold 2 books - a House Doctor book, and an Indian head massage book, a Wallace and Gromit video and a Noel Coward biography on audio book.

The selling prices totalled £21.34 and the amount Amazon paid me was £25.87, the postage came to £6.06, the goods cost me around £3.30 (£1 each for the books and the video was from a job lot at auction) to buy and my packing costs were around 50 pence for them all so my profit for todays sales is £16.01 and then there's tax......but you get the idea

    Thanks Apprenticetycoon.

It's something I have thought about doing as a hobby to rasie some extra money but which would have to fit around the demands of a FT job. I wouldn't be able to hold or deal with 900 books!

I have quite a few books which I think would sell i.e the Rough Guide in good to v good condition series which only cost me £1 each. I also have a couple of rarities which Amazon don't have and I have seen on the internet for around £15 - 25.

Another question - Amazon or Ebay for books?

    Thanks
    SB
  • Amazon or ebay depends on how a book searches on amazon, if it's heavy but selling cheaply then I put it on ebay.
  • I've just ordered some stuff from Viking and was told that where they have 3 for 2 offers it's OK to mix them up and order different sizes etc of the same item, such as Jiffy bags, printer ink (mix colour with black to get up to 3 items) etc - I wish I'd known that before, at times I have had a shed full of 3 boxes of Jiffies in 3 different sizes just to take advantage of the offer.
  • Just thought I would rescue this thread from the bottom of page 2!

Didnt sell anything yesterday but as I was sitting at my computer browsing this site - have sold 3 items in a row! All quite quick after the other!

I have been thinking about the new postal charges which are due to start on MOnday. Do you think it would be better to post books out in board backed envelopes instead of bubble jiffy bags? Just wndering if they would then fit through the slot easier? What does everyone think?

HAs anyone heard from Yvonne? Just wondering if she has had her baby yet.
