    Hi Annie

It's funny, I've often heard people say weekends are busy, they never have been for me. Mondays are usually my busy day, I put it down to people going back to work and having access to computers or maybe they had a book recommended to them over the weekend.

Fingers crossed your 'moan' will work - I've just sold a Mills and Boon to France :rotfl: (I think that now totals about 3 M&B sold in over 5000 book sales).

    Happy selling FFM :)

Ok so this MOAN thing does work - sold 5 today so far
Back on a roll - yipeeeeeee

I've had a couple of months off amazon, as things ended unsold I stopped relisting them and didn't add anything new. I bought 16 philosophy books (mostly thin paperbacks) for £10 from a student at the Uni and my parents bought a few bits up a couple of weeks ago. I got back from holiday on Friday and spent several hours listing things on amazon yesterday. All the philosophy books (took ages as some had notes in them and so needed lots of descriptions), most the things my parents gave me and some of the things I'd had on before. The rest of the things I'm going to take to a car boot sale next weekend as they've either been on amazon 3 times or they're heavy to post and won't be cost effective to sell.

I listed 40 things in total and got home from work today to find 3 sold including 2 of the philosophy ones which after postage costs will cover half the £10 I paid for all 16 :j All are packaged up ready to take to the post office at lunchtime tomorrow :T

Hopefully my selling success will continue. ;)

I've missed this thread and thought I must post my successes straight away

I sold 5 books today to the same person. He's paid a fortune in postage, but as they were all 1p or only slightly more books I don't intend to refund him any of the postage, unless he asks. Do you think this is OK? I might think again after I've posted them and know how much the parcel is costing. I've got exactly £8 after Amazon have taken their fees.

  • Hi ruthiejane, 5 books to one buyer is a great sale! read my note and see if you might consider giving him a small discount, or at least email him and explain

you've sold 2 items to the same buyer at the same time?

your buyer will be charged double the postage charge, they might be a bit miffed at this because they'll assume that it must be cheaper posting 2 things in the same jiffy and they'll remember this when they write your feedback.

This is a bit tricky because if it's 2 light items you'll be making your profit up on the postage allowance so it's not really a great thing to have a multiple purchase but you don't want to set up bad feedback about high postage costs either.

If they are light items I give a refund of £1 or so but explain why in the email I send, this is what I said last time......

'Thank you for buying my books, they were posted earlier today so they should be with you tomorrow

If you've used Amazon Marketplace before you might have guessed that the allowance paid by Amazon to the seller for the postage costs is considered to be part of the profit from the sale of the book, this is why you'll see 100's of books selling for just 1 penny, the seller makes the profit on the postage allowance assuming the book is light to post.

With heavier books it works the other way around and the seller has to subsidise the postage costs out of the profit of the book.

So as you ordered 2 very light books from me I don't think that it's fair that I keep ALL of the postage allowance so I'll process a small refund as a gesture.'

I always get a nice email back thanking me for the refund and good feedback is assured!

I am so glad I never went pro-merchant. Yes it is annoying paying the 0.86 or whatever it is, but I would deffo have lost money the other way round!

  • Can I leave a question here for AT please?

I went to view an auction today - looking for books. I am now going to go back tomorrow and bid for some. (A bit nerve wracking as its my first time!!)

AT - I believe you know a bit about china bits and pieces? At the auction I saw a teapot which was gorgeous. Its made by Belik (sp??) and has shells as feet and a shell on the lid. There is a slight crack to the lid. Just wondering howmuch it might be worth. If I did buy it I would keep it though as I love the look of it. Just wondering how high to bid.

    Thanks
  • OOOOOHHHHH belleek!

just search it on ebay you might be very surprised at how much these can fetch, is it like this one? if the only damage is on the lid then thats OK, a serious collector might look for a good lid on a bad teapot and put the 2 together to make a perfect teapot
  • If I did buy it I would keep it though as I love the look of it.

If it looks anything like the one AT has linked to I think you should seriously sell it - I know it's all a matter of taste ladies - but it's awful!!!!

I would not give it house space - well, only until it was auctioned off ;)

Seriously, though Christina - hope you get it for a song and sell it for a load.
