Grr Ashtrays outside supermarket doors!

This is something that really annoys me! The supermarket in question is Asda, but I'm sure others do the same thing and that is to put bins with ashtrays on top right outside the entrance to the store! Why encourage people to smoke in the door ways forcing people who don't want to breath in these putrid fumes to have to!
Also, There is an ashtray right next to the cash point at my local Asda. So once again, you're hit by this god awful smell whilst using the machine!
There should be a non smoking perimeter around stores, say from the trolly park to the road, so you can have a clear path to the entrance with out having to dodge smoke.
rant over.

If they didn't put them next to the door then people would just drop their cigarettes on the floor as they walked in.If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550

It must vary from store to store. At ours there is no smoking under the canopy bit and around the taxi pick up by the front doors. There are no ash bins there and the staff have to go to a corner of the car park. It's not sheltered and I've seen them all huddled there puffing away on my way into store. Here I go again on my own....0

I wonder if these people who drop their 'butts' on the floor would be just as happy to throw say a, chocolate bar wrapper, or a drink can on the floor when they've finished using it.
oh.... I hate littering too.

oh good, that sounds better - maybe i'll write to our store manager and suggest our Asda does the same!0 -

Do you mean "floor" (inside) or "ground" (outside) ?0 -

People seem to light up immediately and hang around outside alot of public buildings round here, not just supermarkets.
My gripe is when they smoke next to the bicycle stands - I have to try and hold my breath whilst loading my shopping and escaping.
I think I preferred it BEFORE the smoking ban - at least you could try and avoid certain places then. Now, where-ever you go outdoors, there's no escape0 -
I like it in the summer when sitting in the beer garden of the local listening to all the non-smokers complaining about the smell of the smoke as of course all the smokers are outside.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

I bet I'm going to get some stick for saying it, but I think there should be seperate smoking and non smoking tables outside Pubs for outside summer drinking. Preferably, a good distance apart. Or maybe the smokers could go in the carpark when they when they need to spark up...
.... running away now.....0 -

I agree, and I'm an ex-smoker.:)0
