A Mars isn't a Mars without the nougat! Plus at work they are the same price as the full bars.

When I heard about the Mars Caramel, I thought the nougat would have been caramel flavour. Its just a way for Mars co to keep costs down!

What we need is for one of these manufacturers to actually be ' named and shamed' in a big way so that others see the error of their ways. Maybe then there could real competiton between them to see who could p*ss the highest and trying to top each other with boasts like 'no price increase or size decrease'.

Nah, I can't see it happening either - These companies have no shame!

They did do a feature about it on BBC's Watchdog a week or so ago and I was pleased to see Frylight appearing. The trouble is people have to buy food but we don't have to buy the brands where we're feeling even more ripped off than usual.

I had a Twirl the other day and I am sure it was smaller than it used to be... despite an almost microscopic investigation of the wrapper I could find a weight nowhere.

If it's less than a certain weight they don't have to put the weight on the packet - it's somewhere around 20g but I can't remember exactly. So your chocolate must have been teensy!

The worst thing is when they try to put a health spin on it, as if they were doing us a favour buy giving smaller portions at the same price, so that we eat fewer calories....

45g instead of 58g, but still full price...
    (81.5p v. £1.05 p. 100g, what a RIP OFF!)

Unless its changed since I was at school (in the '90s) I was told that companies didn't have to put weights on products if they were below 50g. Many still do but its not because they legally have to.

I think the shrinking size of chocolate candy bars is due to the EU. It was mentioned on that documentary with Jacques Perretti as a public health initiative. Make the bars smaller but let the manufacturers keep the same price as an incentive to do it.

    Didn't know that.
It would have been more honest to have a 'calories' tax to pay for the alleged additional costs to the NHS, than line the pockets of multinationals, who change packaging size all the time when it suits their pockets (so it can't be that hard to do....).
